I don't recall Obama ever claiming to have gone to the Situation Room.

During the 2nd presidential debate, he said this:

Very true, but with the Chicago Tribune article I just posted, Obama spent less than 1 hour involved in this serious situation. Panetta was back at the Pentagon by 6 pm.

The point is, Obama SHOULD have been in the situation room. A consulate is considered American soil, an Ambassador has diplomatic immunity, so in essence our country was UNDER ATTACK. If that does not call for a trip to the situation room, I do not know what does.

On the phone with? The National Security Council works out of the West Wing of the White House, which is where Obama was meeting with Panetta.
