Felt it strong here about 20 mi. west of Knoxville, TN.
When we moved from CA, we thought that would be the end of earthquakes.

Thats no more than a squrrel fart here in Southern California! We are blessed with multiple faults that break up, dampen and scatter vibration.
They are on a solid plate that can ring like a bell.

Must be part of the Eastern Tenn Seismic Zone. Quake large enough to be felt in this area, info says, occur ONCE a year, although it is active with small quakes.

Were the Mayans right? Is December 21, 2012 the end? Makes one wonder.

I’m near Cincinnati, Ohio. I felt it and heard it, seemed like it went on for several seconds. At first I thought it was the neighbor up stairs being very rowdy.

Maybe a dumb question,
But would this seismic activity be considered ‘normal’ for this area?
What I mean is, the media always makes out that almost every earthquake is nothing special and has always been happening, perhaps so, but still there are folks living in these areas (in the Midwest for example) in recent years, that neither they nor their grandparents have ever felt one before,

Someone should check with Chris Matthews.
I am sure he is happy it happen although a little late.

Felt it strong here about 20 mi. west of Knoxville, TN. When we moved from CA, we thought that would be the end of earthquakes. You felt it like me because you are near the Cumberland Mountains. Roosevelt Mountain likely very near you if you are 20 miles west of Knoxville. I'm southwest of the quake so I would get it because mountains & ridges in East Tennessee run Northeast by southwest.
East Tennessee does have small quakes from time to time. This was a big one of such. Be very thankful you moved east of the Cumberland Plateau. There's a huge fault line at Memphis.

Looks like TN shouldn't have sent those two democrats back to Congress. :-)
Here in Red Hampshire, where I am currently trapped; we got our 'ground-shaking message' BEFORE the election. In defiance; the people doubled down, and re-elected Zero, while electing three of the most vile women in America to higher office. That quake was centered in Maine, and they just authorized queer 'marriage'.
Buckle up.

Someone here was posting a list of potentially deadly earthquakes striking worldwide over the next two months...he posted it on several thread, but I cant seem to locate it. Does anyone remember who was posting those? I didn't see that one. But this is between two mountain ranges so you'd expect some quakes I reckon.
