In the wake of President Barack Obama's electoral victory, gleeful Democrats believe that the impending "fiscal cliff" has Republicans trapped into finally accepting higher tax rates. But as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sits for an interview in his Capitol office 48 hours after the election, one thing is certain: He is in no way chastened by Tuesday's results. If Mr. Obama wants fiscal hand-to-hand combat, he will get it.
"Let me put it very clearly," says the five-term Republican senator from Kentucky. "I am not willing to raise taxes to turn off the sequester. Period." On Jan. 1, Washington faces both a huge tax increase and an automatic spending cut known as the "sequester," which could tip the economy back into recession. A newly emboldened President Obama is likely to take his soak-the-rich case straight to the people, I remind the senator. The political pressure to capitulate could become intense.
"Look, he may think it would be helpful to his presidency to continue to divide and demonize us," says Mr. McConnell. "But my answer will still be short and firm: No. We won't agree to any tax increases that will hurt the economy."

No new taxes! No debt increase! Call the Jackhole’s bluff.
Well..the House is our last and only firewall to the Marxist. They need to get... determined and please the half of the country that are the producers.
I believe that they will continue to disappoint. Their "legacy" is already toast.
I have a hard time giving a damn anymore.
He will raise taxes.
Don't let your mouth write a check that your butt can't cash.
If you DO decide to take a stand, then do NOT ever give up. The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose.
If they do nothing taxes are going to go up anyway. Would be better if they had some say in how the reform is shaped.
Let taxmageddon cometh. At this point i don’t care. I want to
see Barry CRUSHED by the chaos it will bring.
No. On taxes and the economy, they need to get out of the way and start voting to abstain. That way they can’t be accused of blocking The One in the media and the Dems will own the disaster completely.
I realize a large part of the citizenry is stupid. They did re-elect Obama. I realize a large part don’t give a rats ass they just want free shit.
But a fight overtaxing the “rich” is just silly.
All the GOP needs do is show that if you taxed every tax filer last year that made over 250,000 dollars at a 50 pecent rate it would not even make a noticible dent in the deficit..
We have TRILLION dollar deficits every year. It is not possible to tax your way out of that. The problem is simple. The Federal Government spends to much money. PERIOD. Until Americans get a set of stones and say enough, nothing will change...........
No offense..who freakin cares about what the media thinks of them or accuses them of..part of our nation voted no to obama so they represent those taxpayers who do not want to pour money into more spending for the government expansion ..to those who think it’s unfair that the other guy has more... if they have any hope of any doable legacy, this is where they should begin or by your terms..they should pack up and go home..the dems and the media are socialists...hope Mitch really gets it..if they fail, USA IS DONE, as we knew it to be. The media is doing this-Obama is the prop. Our side has to make the media part of Obama.
Correction. They didn’t STEAL the election by that much.
I don’t have a whole lot of faith left, in McConnell or any other politician. That said, I hope they stay strong. We learned firsthand what Obama’s idea of negotiation is thanks to Bob Woodward (of all people) reporting on the administration’s sabotage of the so-called “Grand Bargain”.
Beyond that, I’m hoping the GOP is already preparing for the 2014 Senate races. There are several Democrats that I think can be beaten next time: Al Franken in Minnesota, Begich in Alaska, Shaheen in New Hampshire, and possibly Merkley in Oregon. Not enough to swing a majority, but a good start.
You do realize that the majority of voters who voted for Obama aren't economically literate enough to understand nor care. They voted for free stuff, whether the gov't redistributes it or they loot it. We are Rome circa 200 AD
Reid plans to go right around the GOP Senators, making up the rules along the way.
Maybe he didn’t hear Boehner. Boehner has already raised taxes by saying Obamacare is the law of the land.
No doubt in my mind. Prepare for the worst. Obama, Axelrod and Jarrett can't wait to let it all burn.
Needs to be repeated a thousand times.
The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose.
The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose.
The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose.
The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose.
The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose.
The MSM will savage you either way, so you have nothing to lose...
The message will never leave our orbit. The media has, and will, bury it under a mountain of verbiage.
Who cares?
The voters.
They scream and holler and blame the Republicans for blocking The One on his ‘perfect economic policies.’ I say we give them exactly what they want.
