About 3,000 people lined up for the citys first-ever jobs fair on Friday some of them waiting in line for up to six hours hoping to apply for work with the city, but many left frustrated after learning the only way to apply for a job was to go online.
WBBM Newsradios Bernie Tafoya reports Mayor Rahm Emanuel stopped by the job fair, expecting a warm welcome from job seekers, but instead ran into lots of ticked-off people.
Anthony Rodgers was the first person in line at Kennedy-King College on Friday, showing up at 3 a.m. for a job fair that didnt open until 9 a.m. By the time it started, a line of people hoping to land a job with the city, or one of its sister agencies, had snaked around the block.
I need a job. I need a job, thats the bottom line. The best way to get a job? Be there before your employers there, Rodgers said.
His goal was the same as everyone else in line to get a job. But many said the job fair wasnt what they were expecting a chance to sit down and apply for or interview for a job, not simply meet a few city officials and be told they had to apply online.
Cherrie Moore said, They just got fliers of resources, things we could have got on the Internet, things we probably already know about.
Excuse me Mr. Mayor, I have a question. I came down here, I stood in line for four hours, expecting to get a job interview, or fill out an application. And I stood in line for four hours to get a flyer telling me to go online, one woman in line complained.

People is CHICAGO looking for jobs??????!!!!!!!!!!!
You want jobs? Stop voting for Democrats.
Rodney Booker said, I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.
The salaries for available city jobs featured at the job fair range from $30,000 to $110,000 a year.
City human resources officials apologized for not being clearer from the start that people attending the job fair wouldnt get interviews, or a chance to be hired right away.
Despite the complaints, the mayors office said the job fair was a success, and another would be held next year.
Re the questioning of Emanuel about job interviews and being told to go online, “Hey, schmuck, it’s the CHICAGO WAY”.
Promise the world, lie like hell, and skip out before the tomatoes are thrown.
Lesson learned? Hopefully. Remember, you voted for this bastard ballerina, and you GOT HIM. Enjoy your soon to end unemployment checks.
giverment jobs
They are not looking for REAL jobs. They are trying to get work with the city.

Ok, some of you are being hard hearted. I remember watching the video of those blacks in south Chicago who rallied outside a tv station. Many people there want jobs. If you read the article, one guy dressed in a suit, stood in line only to be told to apply online. Whoever posted the job fair is at fault for not being honest with those people.
I don’t blame those who stood for hours hoping for an interview - that’s what people expect at a job fair. Its the mayor’s office who messed it up. And, yet, these people still vote for these losers. That’s beside the point - they still want jobs.
There are a lot fewer jobs available today than there were a few days ago. Liberals talk a lot about creating jobs but don’t have a clue about what it really means.
The peon's don't know nothing - we gonna have another. Although I agree with the other comments - they're there to troll for the non-job jobs.
My point is government jobs aren’t real jobs. They are parasitic on the real economy.
The poor schmucks don't get that the Job Fair is a photo op for Rahm, and they're just stage props.
...and that the unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percent just that day despite actual claims for unemployment going up according to the Obama Bureau of Labor BS.
"We plan to have more of these events in the future so more people can be directed to a website and he can pretend we've created even more jobs..."
Be that as it may, we’re always going to have government jobs. Having said that, most of them are overpaid and under worked.
This is funny! jobs, chicago, obama. This is funnier than those hasbeen hags on the view.
I think everyone needs to understand that this is how the Dems get their voting base. They just got up to date addresses, phone numbers and resumes from the 3000-4000 people who are at least willing to stand in line for a job. These people will be officers in the GTVO operations when they are contacted.
I was given the task of making phone calls to Republican super voters in my precinct and out of 100 contacts almost 90% had bad phone numbers. We can make fun of them all we want but we just got our butts kicked by these tactics.
