You need to volunteer more helping the truly needy. Drop in on the local developmentally disabled day care and see if you can help them some way. You'll meet some truly needy people that need that program and aren't just scamming it.
Disclaimer, I don't volunteer like that, myself, though I recognize it would be good to do. But I did have a job where I got exposure to them.
