Florida Senator Marco Rubio is heading to the first caucus state of Iowa on Nov. 17 to headline an annual campaign fundraising birthday party for Iowa governor Terry Branstad.
Last year all the presidential hopefuls, except for Mitt Romney, came to the party to court the governor and Iowa political dignitaries who attended the bash.
The governors spokesperson, Tim Albrecht, a caucus expert himself, told ABC News that Branstad invited Rubio and is excited he accepted.
Sen. Rubio is a star within our party, Albrecht said. We were excited Sen. Rubio accepted, and regardless of what happened on Tuesday he was going to come, and it guarantees a successful fundraiser.
And as for the assumption that this means Rubio is a sure thing for a 2016 presidential bid? Albrecht said the speculation is one of the bonuses of living in the Hawkeye state and he knows Rubio will be a major draw.
Im sure people will speculate regardless, and if Gov. Romney had won people would speculate about 2020, Albrecht said. When you live in Iowa youre under a microscope.
Of course the speculation cant hurt Rubio, or Iowas hopes for remaining the first state where voters get to pick a president. Albrecht said they were of course hoping the (caucus process) would start 6 years from now.
But, we expect Iowa to be first once again and Gov. Branstad welcomes any candidates that might be looking ahead to the Iowa caucuses, Albrecht said.

Sorry, but although I'm sure he has the right ideology, he and those like him (Duncan Hunter, etc) will always be seen as too extreme or too loony. Except for his foreign policy, I liked Ron Paul. Unfortunately, his foreign policy would have resulted in our utter destruction.
maybe Gov Walker as veep?
George P. isn't going to be running for POTUS in 2016. His dad probably will but George P. will likely throw his hat in the ring for some other office.
I honestly don't know enough about him to answer that with any degree of certainty.
I would support Palin.
Hope she hurries up. The next campaign will be huge, and start very soon.
“Between him and Bobby Jindal, that’s our future. “
Really? When did WASP America agree to give up their country? Did they vote to do this?
Three days later, the GOP will start floating the name of the next contender for 2020.
Ummmm yup. Happened just four days ago. Weren't you paying attention? You think all those votes were from minorities?
I know that plenty of those votes came from the foreign nationals that the amnesty-loving No Borders wing of the GOP refused to deport.
