Record snowfalls, new power outages, flood warnings as storm slams Northeast
NBC News ^ | 11/8/12 | Ian Johnston

A winter storm battered the Northeast coast Thursday after cutting power to at least 115,000 homes and dumping record snowfalls in the New York City area.

The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts as high as 60 mph along the coast, “minor to moderate” flooding from storm surges, and more snow, particularly in New England, early Thursday.

More than 600,000 people were without electricity as a result of superstorm Sandy and the new storm.

NBCNewYork.com reported that more than 198,000 Long Island Power Authority customers, 55,000 Con Edison customers in New York City and Westchester County, 197,560 Jersey Central Power & Light customers, and 9,000 Atlantic City Electric customers had no power.

Now that Barack is a lame duck, he no longer has to prove to anybody that he’s a hero.

People of good will are going to have to learn that the give-a-damn factor in elections, MATTERS. I still think the empirical evidence shows that a fair, compulsory plebiscite would have given the nod to Mitt, not Barack.

Not everybody there is a lazy bum, of course. But that region had its unique risks as well as its unique rewards.

I was in Houston during Alicia, not far from downtown. We got thru it without gubmit help.

I am always stunned by folks who cry out for help from the gubmit, all you have to do is act like a community and just get it done.

What a bunch of weenies some have become.

Regards

I do believe a rapture is coming but my readings in Revelation suggest a period of testing and persecutions by the Beast who would be “allowed to wear down the saints” and it talks about those” under the throne who had been killed for their testimony and who had not taken the mark”. My reading of Thessalonians doesn’t convince me that it speaks of the “church being taken up” as that “removal of He that restraineth”. It could just be that the Holy Spirit steps aside or what ever angel or spiritual entity is taken aside and the beast is allowed to take control. It doesn’t mean that Christians are abandoned for the Holy Spirit will keep them form “coming under that great delusion being sent by God that is coming that men should believe a lie’.

Now if I’m wrong, happy days! Yet as men of Faith we should be prepared for surprises and to be prepared to adjust some of our eschatology. We know Christ’s coming is nigh for we have entered into a period much like the “days of Noah”(so shall it be in the days of the coming of the Son of Man)....heck even the growing interest of UFO’s and increasing reports of “alien visitations” read much like the visitations of the Nephilim or “sons of God” as was described concerning the days of Noah. I’ve heard teachings suggesting that the rapture occurs, at 3.5 years into the final 7 years, with the death and resurrection of the 2 witnesses...they rise up, the dead in Christ rise up , then the rest of the living church follow suit.

I guess my caution about rapture timing comes down to what Christ said...”Watch therefore and be ready, for no man knows the time or the hour...” We evangelicals have set great store in the pre-trib rapture...would we be able to stand if we should have to endure some testing and persecution by the Beast system first?

The coastal counties most affected by all of this are actually red, not blue. Alot of republicans are suffering not only storm damage, but the election loss as well.

Meh, par for the course here in Conn. The media is trying to turn this into something abnormal. It ain’t.

Had fun slipping and sliding on the roads last night because our state listened to the forecaster’s predictions (of not much snow) instead of being prepared for the worst (rain that changed over to lots of snow), so we had a nice layer of ice under the unplowed white stuff. Two fatalities from accidents, one when a tractor-trailer jackknifed, the other from a roll-over.

Have plenty of dry wood when I did get home, even if power goes out, just like every winter. If I wasn’t traveling back home from a west coast meeting, I wouldn’t have been out on the roads.

Most were typical first-storm accidents, where people just weren’t ready, but quite a number of cars stuck in the roads were due to the poor state prep. Some I’m sure was due to the storm itself—starting with rain, the salt gets washed off, then the change to snow freezes the rain layer, and you get cars spinning tires and clogging roadways so the plows can’t get through.

I believe this is the first time I’ve ever used the word schadenfreude in a sentence. Feels kinda good.

What also feels good:

No more shopping at union stores.

No more donations to enabling charities.

No more extension of my professional responsibilities to support the entitled class. I’m a doctor. I diagnose illness and prescribe treatment. It is not my job to get people free or cheap meds when they can afford them, nor is it my job to help them enroll in any form of welfare.

I feel bad for the children and Romney voters that are suffering there. The others..? Not so much. I don’t want to see anyone die but a little suffering is said to be good for the soul.

"Freeze a Yankee" huh?

I'm sorry to say I have the say reaction as most on this thread. Yet, they didn't ALL vote for Obama. Sin cause suffering, but often the one who does the sinning is not the same one that does the suffering.

AMEN! We have good reason to be joyful in spite of these maggots who only think of themselves and not AMERICA. They can have it and all the evilness they supported now, soon we will be HOME on streets of gold for eternity. This is what keeps me going!

I pray that some in such a situation as you describe would remain available to the Lord to minister out of their supply as the Holy Spirit would direct.

Hey NY/NJ, according to Al Gore this is caused by global warming. So to save yourselves from freezing, turn off your CO2 emitting stoves, furnaces and fireplaces. Don’t use your cars either. Once you shut off anything that produces pollution you should warm right up and be OK.

At least that’s what I heard.

I just cannot believe the poor excuse for a “president” is getting credit for being such a great help to these poor victims of these storms. Yet they still voted for him. This is just crazy! If that had been Bush, man oh man!
