Welch Allyn
Welch Allyn, a company that manufactures medical diagnostic equipment in central New York, announced in September that they would be laying off 275 employees, or roughly 10% of their workforce over the next three years. One of the major reasons discussed for the layoffs was a proactive response to the Medical Device Tax mandated by the new healthcare law.
Dana Holding Corp.
As recently as a week ago, a global auto parts manufacturing company in Ohio known as Dana Holding Corp., warned their employees of potential layoffs, citing $24 million over the next six years in additional U.S. health care expenses. After laying off several white collar staffers, company insiders have hinted at more to come. The company will have to cover the additional $24 million cost somehow, which will likely equate to numerous cuts in their current workforce of 25,500 worldwide.
Stryker
One of the biggest medical device manufacturers in the world, Stryker will close their facility in Orchard Park, New York, eliminating 96 jobs in December. Worse, they plan on countering the medical device tax in Obamacare by slashing 5% of their global workforce - an estimated 1,170 positions.
Medtronic
In March of 2010, medical device maker Medtronic warned that Obamacare taxes could result in a reduction of precisely 1,000 jobs. That plan became reality when the company cut 500 positions over the summer, with another 500 set for the end of 2013.
Others
A short list of other companies facing future layoffs at the hands of Obamacare:
Smith & Nephew - 770 layoffs Abbott Labs - 700 layoffs Covidien - 595 layoffs Kinetic Concepts - 427 layoffs St. Jude Medical - 300 layoffs Hill Rom - 200 layoffs
Add on those companies reducing hours to keep employees part-time and avoid Obamacare taxes.

I heard RIMM closed down (Ariz?) and layed off 3000 people yesterday.
UNEXPECTED.
To everyone who is losing their job, who voted for Romney, I’m sorry, I hope you find a good job soon. To those losing their jobs who voted for hussein I say good, I hope you lose your homes cars, everything. Mean, yes I know. It doesn’t sit well with me to wish ill on others. But in this case they richly deserve it, they need to feel some of the pain and suffering they are helping to inflict on everyone by helping hussein continue to destroy the economy and our freedoms, our very way of life.
Today is layoff day for my company here in Alabama. By 3:00pm 200+ poor souls (58% of the work force) will receive the bad news. Victims of sequestration.
Darden Restaurants moving every worker to part time.
Must be under thirty hours a week now to avoid ObamaCare.
At this point, the sooner the policies of the left are proven to be failures, the sooner the way can be cleared for a real alternative.
I will not help the system to survive. The left must be allowed to stew in their own juices to the point where they begin fighting amongst themselves for diminishing resources, a la Greque.
In this regard, we will be limiting our commerce as much as possible, limiting purchases, buying used. Any commerce we do will be done among like-minded people. Slowing the velocity of money through the system will help grind it to a halt. We already know that most businesses will not be hiring, and many will be converting full-time employees into part-time to avoid obamacare. The makers will be going Galt to various degrees.
There are many other things that people are doing with their assets to keep them away from being redistributed, and people are clever, and the government will run out of other peoples money sooner than later. In desperation, the government may float a wealth tax, pay fairness, etc. Those will be signs that we are winning. The faster we starve the beast, the sooner people will look for an alternative. The worse things get, the more electable and conservative the alternative will become.
So, will this Friday’s jobs report show an “unexpected” rise in unemployment numbers to back above 8%?
I’m in DOD and I’ve been told my last day is November 30.
Wife works in DOD also. Not looking too good for my family. Thanks so much all you “staunch, principled republicans.” That’s the spirit...

Kmart is closing its Durham store and laying off 79 people, the company has notified state officials. The store, which operated for nearly three decades is slated to close Jan. 20. Liquidation sales will get underway this weekend.
Sears capped off the holiday shopping season with the dispiriting announcement that it would have to close between 100 to 150 stores. A list of Sears and K-marts to be shuttered quickly followed, mostly concentrated in Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Georgia.
Elsewhere in the country, primarily in the Mid-Atlantic, the remaining Filenes Basements and Syms stores are going dark, after having milked the last of the season.
Michael Wiener, president of Excess Space Retail Services in Lake Success, NY, estimates that there will be between 6,000 to 9,000 store closing in 2012 among national and regional retailers, outside of bankruptcies.
This is upwards to 50% more than what would be a normal level of store closings for a typical year, he says.
Is this the season of retail store bankruptcies? Sears, K-Mart, ........ ???
Let the public have two years to consider their folly and have good candidates lined up for Senate seats.
