In approving a ballot measure sought by Gov. Jerry Brown to raise taxes for several years, Californians took a step toward improving the state's fiscal situation and avoiding education cuts.
According to the California Secretary of State's website, 53.9% of voters backed the measure, Proposition 30, while 46.1% voted against it, with all votes counted except for provisional and some mailed-in ballots.

A mass exit of the wealthy and smart people is on its way.
They also achieved their 2/3 majority in both houses. They can now tax at will.
Unless they voted to raise taxes 100% on themselves, I am not impressed.
CA voters voted every imaginable tax increase, yet voted down a measure that would've enabled auto insurance companies to offer discounts to policyholders who've been diligent in insuring their cars.
Nucking futs.
So did the rest of the country by reelecting the Liberal Messiah and a Democratic Senate.
CA has Dem supermajority: Bye-Bye, Prop. 13
Let me guess. The ones voting for it are the ones getting free stuff.
That will be their first target.
California, lol.
Kookifornication-—Metastatic LIEberalism, stage IV cancer.
I really feel like a sucker these days. Risk everything and start a business and devote my life to it and work my ass off like you wouldn’t believe and I have to give and give and give taxes here and fees there and give money to those guys and I train people and give them careers and they can feed their kids and I provide health insurance and you would think that I would be appreciated right? NOPE,I have a manufacturing business in California, obviously I hate women and don’t care about the environment and don’t like gay people and I need to be more regulated and pay more fees and pay my “Fair share”. After last night it looks like America will soon become California. Fifty years ago people would have looked at me and said “That son of a bitch did it right. He worked his tail off and I admire that bastard”. Now they look at me and say “What a sucker that poor bastard is. Let someone else work their ass off, he doesn’t get it”. I am a sucker, right?
Yes, you are - for willingly supporting the state of Failiphonia.
You sir are a true winner. Hold your head high for your God given talents that you used productively in service to society. The losers and ingrates will inherit the wind.
Gosh, I hope they tax the Hollywierdos into renting my back yard shed.
Whenever the big government apparatchiks want more money, more control they just threaten to cut education and the feel-good "anything for the kids" crowd lines up, bends over and grabs their ankles.
This whole election, from coast to coast, makes me physically ill. I didn't sleep more than 20 or 30 minutes last night, haven't eaten much all day - just some tea. It is like watching a loved-one die.
Every penny slated for “education” is going to pay for teacher pensions. Every Single Penny.
Not completely true. Some of it will pay for lavish administrator vehicles and office furniture, not to mention remodeling teacher lounges.
Prop 13 is still in effect. State income and sales taxes can be imposed within any Republican legislators’ consent, but the property tax and local sales tax limits of Prop 13 remain.
Oh I know Prop 13 is still in place, but where California has gone the direction it has its days are numbered.
