Another way to look at it is kids learn that in order to get more stuff, they need to walk further (work). If you sit on you a$$, you get nothing. I wanted lots of candy, so I walked very very far.
My observation, at least in my neighborhood and surrounding areas, is that kids *don’t* walk to trick or treat. Their parents drive them. I didn’t have a single kid who arrived at my house on foot this year.
