National Review reporter Robert Costa talks to an unnamed Mitt Romney adviser who indicates there are a lot of hard feeling between Romneys inner circle and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie over the latters embrace of President Obama after Hurricane Sandy:
Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, the adviser adds, is persona non grata in Romneys inner circle. He went out of his way to embrace the president during the final week of the campaign, the adviser says. It wasnt necessary and it hurt us. Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, and Chris Christie undermined the Republican message.
Christie, of course, had earlier been one of Romneys most able surrogates. He was an early supporter of Romney and delivered the keynote address at this years republican convention.

Christie is toast. Right up there on the same shelf with John Roberts. I’m not doing a lot of forgiveness these days.
im sure that there are still schmucks out there that will defend it
I would be surprised if there is another election in america. But I have never cared for Christie. The man most like Ronald Reagan is Herman Cain in my book.
Christie gets to be Sarah Palin of the GOP’s Rino losers this election season? Lucky him.
Yes, they were the margin if you want to look at it that way.
But, it’s equally true that the Republicans who didn’t vote were the margin, or the folks who voted third party were the margin, or Hispanics were the margin....
Bottom line, they apparently beat us with a better ground game. But I’m appalled that our turnout wasn’t better.
why- you think if they hadn’t made those statements people in starbucks wouldn’t have voted for obama and would have voted for Romney??
i’m not defending them and that’s the problem with some of the Tea Party candidates; its great to get the RINO’s out but when you replace garbage with garbage (odonnell, angle, akin) this is the end result....
I watched Christie during this. He deliberately praised Obama who did not a damn thing and when asked about Romney (Who made him the Keynote Speaker!) Christie looked liek he needed to take a dump. F him it was absurd.
even the Dems are saying Christie helped them so why is it that a couple cannot understand that Christie helped obama on the photo op and praising him?
Chrisite should have got on TV and demanded that oabma do something and stop campainging when people are cold and hungry but no he did not, the left admits it helps them and we have a couple who still refuse to see this and wants to defend Christie
Their message was damaging and spread far beyond safe presidential GOP territory into the far more narrow swing states.
These two asshats ran their mouths because they were in safe GOP territory and thought they had it in the bag. They never gave a thought to closer states and how their nutty talk might harm the larger effort.
You are 100% correct. A coworker just today who I've always regarded as relatively nonpolitical mentioned Akin just this afternoon as the kind of person the Republican party needs to dump before people he knew would consider voting for the party.
There are just too many conservatives living in an echo chamber and don't realize the damage these idiots do to us. You could see that echo chamber effect right here on FR where it seems Obama's victory came as a complete shock - despite the fact that most seasoned election analysts like Cook, Sabato, Rothenberg, etc, along with poll predicted just this result.
At least Christy did it out in the open. I guess we are all suppose to forget that Romney and his staff were behind the first attacks on Sara Palin. Romney put his ambition before the good of the Country. What goes around comes around.
Yeah....I was wondering why he made the great leadership comments about Ozero??? Ozero just came for the photo, he still has not done squat for the people hurting. Chris just wanted to stick a knife in Romney. That is the only story that makes sense.
not that I’m making any excuses for the fat man traitor, but I wonder if there was some kind of phone call from Obama, stating, “you want assistance? then we are going to due some photo ops , and you are going to slober all over me, stating what a fantastic job I’m doing, then we talk about dollars for your Sandy problems.”
after all, Obama was down 5 or 6 points at that point.. He was toast. And the hurricane turned it around for him.
“They were cruising to victory and would have easily won were it not for those. Why... WHY even go there?”
Because they were both slow witted and unprepared for the job. When a reporter asked them a question CLEARLY designed to make THEM look extremist, they were both too slow mentally to immediately answer by talking about the dems as extremist for totally supporting abortion for any reason at 9 months.
It never occured to the dim bulbs to say “Im glad you want to explore the extremes of this issue, if you are interested in where the extremes lie,,how about Obama sponsoring and fighting for the killing of babies that SURVIVE an abortion.”
Do that once or twice in a live venue, and see how often they ask again.
Akin and Mourdock were very poor choices. Other pro-lifers would have handled those slow pitches handily.
We all see where that ended up.
Romney had NOO qualms about tearing down his fellow Repubs to gain the nomination, but was afraid to get real with Obama except for that first debate. When you have your opponent on the ropes, you don't draw back and let him get his breath..
These people are dufusses living in their own reality bubble, just as the Dems live in theirs.
vaudine
And yet Barack Obama and his party mates can crank out garbage after garbage and they gather millions of malcontents to their cause in spite of it.
Farg em.
In the case of Hurricane Sandy,, it was Mayor Bloomberg who got it right, and Christie who got it very wrong. Bloomberg told Obama to stay outta NYC while Christie did the kissy face with Obama, praising him well beyond reason or merit. Like Bloomberg, Christie could have said we need to get this under control, then come see where we are, what we’ve done, and what needs to be done.
Well, if that’s the case, Christie got double screwed, because he apparently didn’t actually GET any assistance.
Such a deal!
Romney lost because two million voters who came out for McCain stayed home. I called them "Pontius Pilate voters" leading up to the election. I was inspired to do so when I saw many of them on FR saying they would be voting down ballot only.
Were you among them? Did you do all you could? Did you do GOTV?
You are absolutely correct. Any one of those things could have been the margin. So you work to minimize the effect of any of them.
Just one of those things going right would have done it for us. So yes, those guys cost us a victory. Like a chain of events in a plane crash, any person doing their job right could have stopped the crash.
Hispanics, 3rd party, stay at home purists,,all are hard to do much about. BUt these guys just had to not say idiotic things about rape.
