Romney Adviser: Christie “Undermined” GOP Message (throws Akin & Mourdock under the bus too)
Washington Examiner ^ | November 7, 2012 | 2:38 pm | Beltway Confidential

National Review reporter Robert Costa talks to an unnamed Mitt Romney adviser who indicates there are a lot of hard feeling between Romney’s inner circle and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie over the latter’s embrace of President Obama after Hurricane Sandy:

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, the adviser adds, is persona non grata in Romney’s inner circle. “He went out of his way to embrace the president during the final week of the campaign,” the adviser says. “It wasn’t necessary and it hurt us. Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, and Chris Christie undermined the Republican message.”

Christie, of course, had earlier been one of Romney’s most able surrogates. He was an early supporter of Romney and delivered the keynote address at this year’s republican convention.

The GOP will never win another election by being the 'loyal opposition' while the other side street fights.

We need fewer Mitt Romneys and more Lee Atwaters.

I scoffed at it too, at first . . . then the bromance between Christie and Obama started to creep me out.

Romney lost because he is a liberal and he was a liberal long before he ever heard of Christie.

The GOP undermined their own message.

They went for a "his turn" GOPE candidate and used pandering and etch-a-sketch "before I was against it" tactics as a platform.

But at least they proved yet again "Conservatives" will trust the VP pick and 8yrs later approach to vote for it.

GOPE+Lib Candidate+Conservatives = Lucy+Football+Charlie Brown

Don't worry, I'm sure it will be different next time.

i agree- blaming Christie is a piss-poor excuse for a bad campaign....

blaming mourdock and akin after you handily took those states is just ignorant....

I didn’t notice Andrew Cuomo or Bloomberg holding on to Obama like a security blankie.

Christie didn’t want to be respected. He wanted to be loved.

Fat turd.

Enough — SHUT UP about this BS. I don’t care. Romney lost. Crawl back under your rock until the next politician hires you.

Christie should`ve insisted on no “hug” pics or anything other than the two reviewing the damage. I knew from the start this was going to cause Romney problems.

Mourdock and Akin were a disaster with their fateful “rape” remarks. They were cruising to victory and would have easily won were it not for those. Why... WHY even go there?

Have to do MUCH better with the recruiting.

I stand 6 feet tall and weigh 340lbs. Gov. Christie is about half again my size. The largest president we’ve ever had was around 300lbs and that was in the 19th Century when girth was a favorable trait. Don’t see it happening.

It’s the best the GOP u can elect in NJ, but we don’t need him elsewhere.

Your logic is flawed. Akin and Mourdock’s comments were big topics among the uterine set here in NC. I don’t much like the Romney campaign, and they made the typical inside the beltway strategist mistakes, but these three men were also devastating and these were unforced errors outside the Romney campaign.
