WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- New revenues "under the right conditions" are acceptable to Republicans as part of a deal to reduce the deficit, House Speaker John Boehner said Wednesday. But Boehner, speaking a day after his party retained its House majority in elections, said revenue should come through growth and reform, not higher tax rates. Bush-era tax cuts are set to expire and automatic spending cuts will kick in next year if Congress doesn't act in the lame-duck session

Actually taxes will go up, Deal or no deal, obamacare, Bush tax-cuts expire. Only the posturing is on the table. Expect tax increases, even though Boehner could stop them. Boehner could defund the entire government, and shut it down. Much doubt Boehner has the foresight. Dingy Harry has the Senate. The zer0 crowd voted for tax increases. Well when your interest rate goes through the roof and you have to lay off employees, then we’ll thank that type of no compromise attitude. Frankly Boehner and other non-tea party reps are going to make a deal because their big donors are business owners who will say you get no money if you go ahead with this. Get a small side business going that deals in barter, assets and cash only. 5. Never accumulate debt (live in apartment until you can pay cash for property for instance). 6. Invest in appreciating hard assets only. 7. Hide your assets and wealth with urgency. 8. File bankuptcy if you do get in debt (as long as assets and wealth is hidden well). 9. Spend your life using the government to make sure you can pay your own medical costs and living expenses from 60 years old on. You'll need a value worth about $6 Million by then to start.

Stop all spending on non-essentials and build your war chest. It will help you when you most need it and it denies it from the moochers.

In 2008 I went into Fiscal Hibernation Mode^TM. Since then, my checking account alone has climbed from 15k to 90k (I'm pouring huge amounts into my 401(k)). I'm not getting any interest on it, but I can do without the whole hundred dollars I might get from that. My savings will happily stay asleep and grow quietly.

I know that at least one hand-wringer will say, "Obama will confiscate it." No he won't. I'll withdraw and bury it first, or burn it at Wyatt's torch. That's not a realistic danger.

My vacation will continue to be at home and my shopping will remain at a halt to the largest extent possible. I will do for myself rather than pay a low-income "service industry" Obamabot to do for me.

the media has not been in the least bit honest in anything they’re either reported or failed to report in a long, long time. Why should they start now. The article clearly had written in it that they want to reform taxes, not increase them, they wanted to focus on increasing tax revenue though growth, not increasing levels. The headline is misleading and downright false as to the content.
But we get the typical over reaction.. face it, it’s going to happen whether we want it to or not. Either the tax rates expire or they get Obama to agree to a few measures to simplify the code. We might as well just allow the rates to revert back, massively cut defense spending to the point we’re defenseless, and watch the unemployment roles increase (which will probably reduce the rate the way the measure it) and the tax revenue shrink even further and increase Obama’s free stuff stash on China’s dime out of my grandchildrens piggybanks..

Either way, how will the media portray it? Obama’s insistence on increasing rates for those that voted against him or Republicans insistence on treating everyone fairly?

Even on this site there are WAY too many people living on handouts (i.e., Social Security and Medicare) that are TOTALLY UNWILLING to discuss ANYTHING that might interfere with their gravy train.

On the other hand, I have kids, and they simply WILL NOT have a country unless drastic action is taken very soon. So this may be a start at it.

I think they should hold fast. But you see, they know if they cave to the dems they will be applauded by the media for awhile, at least until 2014 and the SHTF. Then the dems and the media will demonize them as being the architects of the SHTF. No matter what they do they will be blamed. We will blame them for caving, them dems will blame them for what the dems actually did and the media will back the dems up.
