Nope, time to make Ron Paul Speaker of the House.

America at large has no respect for his talents and leadership. Maybe the House of Representatives will.

"Let the other side define us. Conservativism = cold-hearted and evil."

I think the same thing they are thinking when I see talk about cutting entitlements and no jobs plan. There are indeed times when conservatism is stupid, cold-hearted and evil. And there are times when done right when it leads to the best of all possible worlds.

I guess it all depends on how we define conservatism. To me, it's not conservative to outsource our jobs to other countries and then cut people off of the safety nets when they need them most. It's not conservative to think that you can cut taxes and regulations enough to bring the jobs back when the wage differentials are much larger than that.

To me, it's conservative to do what our founding fathers did and what worked well for us. And that is to have protective tariffs and lower them only when we are at full employment.

—They aren’t comfortable with their entitlements. They want jobs, but we lowered our import tariffs and outsourced the jobs to China and other countries—

I disagree. I talked to one aquaintence Monday night who lives off of unemployment 9 months out of the year. And brags about it. I know of people who have bragged to my Sister in-law about their “Obama-phone” and about how they don’t have bills. There are people that need safety nets. There are also many who don’t.

—No you can’t. But the correct way to fix this is not cut out the safety nets and hope people find jobs that they couldn’t find before. The right way is to create the conditions for the jobs to return to America which means restoring the protective tariffs that our founders put in place. Put Americans working for Americans instead of Chinese working for Americans and people won’t be clinging to those safety nets any more.—

No one wanted to cut the safety nets. They needed reformed. You can’t just keep putting money into something and see it go right down the drain. And then KEEP putting money into it.

Returning jobs to the US involves cutting taxes on businesses. If you coincide that with reforming safety nets, it will work.

—That’s not the liberal position. The liberal position is to supply the safety nets and do nothing to get the jobs back—

The liberal position is to supply the safety nets and spend money to create government programs and create workers who will come from those on the safety nets. Problem is, those govn’t jobs don’t last, and really don’t help employment in the long run.

—That’s not Romney’s position. Romney’s position was to cut the safety nets and do nothing to get the jobs back. And to enter more free trade agreements which will outsource even more jobs.—

Romney’s ideas to get jobs back was to cut taxes on businesses. Which would would work.

He did...but one doesn't have to be a House member to be Speaker.

He's a leader of men, an intellectual warrior, he has great reverence for the Constitution and it's authors, He's adapted to the art of politics in a short amount of time, He wouldn't be beholden to a “district constituency” nor vulnerable to losing his seat from redistricting/opposition targeting.

He's respectful of the process, but unafraid of a street fight. Dems would hate, fear and respect him.

I know it's a long shot, but DC Repubs need a kick in the ass.

“BTW, the Speaker of the House need not be a member ~ they can pick who they wish. I can think of a dozen people I’d rather see in there. “

Colonel West or Newt Gingrich...

No. Ryan is a wonderful young man. He’s done nothing to justify sticking him in the Speaker’s position. Poor John Boehner has earned more time on that job.

Boehner needs to be relieved of Speaker Position now. Why, Why, can the GOP House choose a person with a spine for a leader? Same with the Senate. Instead we get the can't we all just get along Enablers.

GOP you darn well better learn how to lead. Learn fast or be a party no more fast. The Two Liberal Party System Must End Now! Boehner needs to do one thing right and step down as Speaker.

I think his seat would have gone Dem otherwise. If he won VP, I’m guessing Gov Walker would get to appoint?

Don’t know the law. Perhaps he would have had to resign the congressional seat and then the appointment.
