California Democrats appear to have picked up a supermajority in both houses of the state Legislature Tuesday night, a surprise outcome that gives the party the ability to unilaterally raise taxes and leaves Republicans essentially irrelevant in Sacramento.

Nah... they just need one of their favorite lib celebrities to remind them it's for the common good.
Liberals in Mass. have been salivating over the idea of undoing Proposition 2 1/2 for decades. They will be looking at this and drooling will commence.
I used to dream about moving to New Hampshire, but after last night I don’t know anymore. I think liberal Massholes have polluted that state too.
Free Republic is headquartered in California. Half this state is red - it’s just that the blue half has most of the voters.
The overturning of Prop 13 will be the final nail in the coffin of California real estate. Nobody not uber-wealthy will be able to own a home here. Say goodnight, Gracie.
***Too late. You saw what happened in Colorado. ***
Forty years ago the most common bumper sticker in Colorado was..”DON’T CALIFORNICATE COLORADO!”
Well, they have, and taken my beloved New Mexico with it.
We deserve what we have done to ourselves. I have lived here all of my 57 years, except for the summer of ‘76 I spent in D.C. I haven’t the means to leave. I will die here.
BTW, I subscribe to the Southern California Rocket Association (SCRA) Yahoo Group, but have never been to a launch.
That’s exactly what I’m telling myself. I’m just afraid that Obama will bail out the pensions for CA and IL and we’ll pay for it anyway.
Btw, last American out of there must pull the plug on the aquaducts. Those people should not be getting American water rights!
Stuff Beck........
Possibly suggested OK because TX will probably go purple in a few years and then eventually blue.
So...anyone want to place bets on how long before California collapses?
I live in Los Angeles so I have been living under Socialism for a very long time now..last night was the final straw..seeing people actually vote to raise taxes..this state is down the drain..I know, half the state is red but the counties with the largest population are extremely liberal..SEIU is headquartered in LA they have a huge presence here..if I had a good paying job somewhere else I would have left LA a long time ago..but I dont know where to go. I have always wanted to live in Texas, or maybe Alabama..it would be nice for once in my life to know how it feels to live in a red state
Come now -- when did a liberal ever fail to find someone else to blame for their own failures? The logical choice in this case is *former* Republicans in the Legislature who created an inherited mess. Sound familiar?
Exactly. My husband is a CA native, I’m a CO native. When we moved to CO from CA last year, he was looking forward to a more conservative place. He’s stewing today.
This is not the CO of my youth.
I don’t think the legislature can overturn Propositions without another proposition. They can certainly raise income taxes, however (and they will.)
I kind of laugh as I read all this tripe.
For the last twenty years I and others have been trying to explain what illegal immigration was going to result in.
Look at the vote totals last night. Look how few popular votes we lost by.
Now, try to understand the impact that legalizing millions of illegal immigrants, which is taking place as we talk here, is having on our nation.
We had ten million illegals here in 2000. We had about two million coming over each year during the Bush administration. Today they still talk about there only being ten million illegals in the nation today. You do the math. Would ten million former illegals now voting making it a better nation?
Be very careful about trashing California and urging it be jettisoned. Your state is next.
In the year 2000, I traveled to Washington, D. C. While there I picked up a copy of the Washington Post. I did because of the headline. In the prior decade, the illegal immigrant populace had gone up 300%.
Who knew this nation would turn into Mexico del Norte. Well, some of us did. Who’s laughing now?
Laugh at Californians all you like. The federal government failed to protect it from invasion. It is failing to protect you from invasion.
California, New Mexico, Colorado, a number of other places too, folks, what do they have in common?
We tried to tell you, and you called us xenophobes, reactionaries, and racists.
Well okay. Those of us who are still alive and asked you to join us to object to us being occupied, will now be able to sit back and watch you sink on board the same ship.
Good. Cali will go down the tubes that much sooner and americans will get to see what the democrats and socialists have in store for the rest of the country. Hopefully before it is too late.
USA is the new California is the new USSR. Pooty sent that submarine to our east coast to taunt us with the "checkmate" the global Left just called on America.
Check out southeastern OK also. Similar geography and even more conservative than MO.
I think it's naive to put the all blame on Californians. There was a *huge* migration of hippies and rich East Coast liberals to Colorado to take part in the 1960s' "Rocky Mountain High." The "Aspen Effect" has polluted most of the formerly conservative West with big-city liberalism.
Give California back to Mexico. We can afford to prop them up anymore.
