Right or wrong, the GOP is going to pinpoint a "latino problem", which will move Rubio to the front of the line.
You can't make exact comparisons, but this election is similar to 2004....Bush won...shocking the left, and the response was to go with the young guy who was different. There WILL be Obama fatigue by 2016, and the next person can't blame Bush any longer.
The GOP was never going to get the black vote, but they CAN get the latino vote. They are far less monolithic, and are more Christian than your typical white lefty. I also present there are a lot of conservative, hard working latinos who will more readily break from the Democratic fold than blacks....if the case is made to them.
Is Rubio automatically the GOP's Obama? Of course not. He might be, but whether he is or not, this, IMO, is likely to be what occurs.
The Demographic bomb is here. Romney just generated a close election in a DEMOCRAT +6 election....I think we'll look back on this and be amazed Romney got it this close.
The takeaway by the GOP, IMO, rightly or wrongly, will be a conservative, religious latino would flip the entire demographic bomb on its head.
ESPECIALLY if in 2016 the Dems go back to a white guy or woman. Of course, they might go Latino themselves...we'll have to see.
This is going to dramatically change the immigration debate, and I think the GOP is now going to decide to go all in, embrace "reform" and start trying to bring Christian Latinos into the GOP.
Rove made the Christian White Voter the centerpiece for Bush.
Going forward the GOP will try to flip the demographic wave on its head, and do a judo move.
Again...I am not saying this is right or wrong, or what SHOULD happen... it is just a forecast of what I think WILL happen.
One thing is sure, there is a decent chance to attract religious Latinos as opposed to religious blacks.
Now...will the GOP move left to do it?
The demographic wave is here, instead of moving left I hope the GOP makes the conservative case to that wave.
Get ready. Immigration reform will be Obamas NEXT BIG THING...and the GOP might just get onboard the train. For good or bad, for better or worse.
I fear a shift left. I think you can bring in Latinos AND go conservative...but I'm not sure they'll do it that way.
I just hope Rubio is the real deal...because I think he is the "next guy".
Will there still be a grand ole party in 2016? The people who control it from the inside have killed it. I see many formerly GOP voters moving away from the party towards a more libertarian group and a tea party group. They hold little sway anymore at this point.
excellent post to be so young
i see a very dark road ahead
If the GOP has any hope to get into the W.H. there needs to be ways to make inroads into the West Coast states and the liberal Northeast. Even 28 years ago, Reagan won every state except for MN and maybe one other state. We taken over the South where as like more than 30 years ago, it was a democrat bastion. We need to find ways to win states like PA, NY and CA since they have a lion share of electoral votes. Antoher angle is a change to their state laws where a proportion of EV’s are awarded based on their vote. like PA with their 20 EV’s, if 51% goes to candidate A and 49% to B, then 11 EV’s to A and 9 to B.
I am in Colorado and we have more one to democrats due to influx of people from the East Coast and California. We have been Californicated !
Great - just what we need, the other party also playing race and probably gender politics to get their vote.
Sorry, no more voting for Republicans or Democrats. No more race baiting, no gender or other political pandering. Tired of it.
I will either vote for someone who plays to Americans or I will not vote. That will almost assuredly leave out both major parties because that has become their pattern.
Of course at the rate it is going, we could all become a part of greater North America the way things are going.
get ObamaPhones for the whole family
Well, they ought to back off. He is a fast talking, UN loyal, sleazy, questionable citizen.
They need to just stay out of it.
Don’t kid yourself. The southwest will now become part of Mexico - supported by American taxpayers.
Yep and the black american political block of the socialst democratic party is about to become a footnote because their political block’s power is diminishing while the Latino’s are on the up swing. Obama telegraphed that as much when he didn’t give them much time during the campaign. Yet they will be “loyal” voters for the socialists. Entertained or kept busy with bread and circus acts.
Plus you are assuming there will still be 50 states in 2016. I can see, or hope for, the day when maker states (TX, OK, SD, WY, NE, AZ et al) get tired of paying for the freeloading taker states like IL, NY, CA, NY Mass, Fla and leave the US to form a new country or republic.
But on the topic of 2016, if there is any conservative choice and a 50 state republic Rubio/West would be the one to watch.
Forget them. Get your head out of your as* and forget the Republicans.
Look out for Gov. Martinez. She’s VP at least.
It will be Rubio unless someone from a state house runs an excellent campaign. It probably should be. Rubio has his weaknesses, but he is our generation’s Reagan. I have felt it since the first video he launched in his Senate primary. He has IT, and can inspire the base and pull people to our party. We have not had that for some time. God bless Romney. He far surpassed my expectations, but he couldn’t inspire with conservative values.
As much as many here will not want to admit, we cannot run a hardline immigration message next time. We lost because the issues was demonized to pull hispanics over by a huge number. We have to win over a much larger percentage. I don’t support Rubio for identity politics. I support him for his conservative core. He also has a middle policy on this issue, and we need to find a middle policy. Strong border defense, increased workers visas to deal with people here, and effort to address children. We will see more elections like this if we go hard line. Bush barely got in twice with a lax policy, and we are getting beat with a stronger policy, even though McCain was the leader of the most lax policy on record.
Rubio will definitely be the party guy...no doubt about it. That’s how they work in DC. He’s also a conservative in the core, and I will look to embrace his candidacy for that reason.
Most Latino’s are Mexican or Central American. Rubio is a Cuban.
Look at the exit polls in Florida. Cuban Hispanics voted for Romney/Ryan. Non Cuban Hispanics went strong for Obama.
By 2016 Obama and the Democrats will have fast tracked citizenship for the anchor babies Obama gave amnesty to this year. Now that he is reelected Obama may declare amnesty for all illegals. If so the Hispanic vote will be reliably Democrat no matter who the Republicans run.
Let’s see Rubio develop a real record in the Senate and then judge whether or not he should be the candidate in 2016. Republicans are not going to win simply because they run a black or Hispanic. The must offer a real alternative and convince the people the alternative is better.
And we as conservatives should go all in to make sure this Amnesty Queen gets nowhere near the nomination!
We don’t have a Latino problem, we have a refusal to pursue conservative, limited government issue positions and solutions within the GOP!
By 2016, over half the country will be living free off the government. No way any republican, let alone conservative, will win by not guaranteeing they keep their free stuff or give them more.
Palin 2016.
Who her VP will be, I remain flexible about.
Start now.
I’m glad we have dispensed with the natural born citizenship issue once and for all then. One less burdensome rule to ponder.
I’m glad the Republicans are starting their pandering early this time. That has, after all, been the reason for all their past failures.
Are you freaking crazy?? There is no way that any conservative will be elected. The electorate just gave another four-more-years to the worst president in history who is actively seeking the destruction of America.
Give it up. It’s over. The S will hit the F. Be ready. Our only hope is that God will bring us through the coming destruction of our beloved country.
If the GOP did better with white voters, especially in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin, then we would have won. A few points increase with the white vote would have been worth a lot more than a big gain with Hispanics.
That may not be so in the future, but it is still the case now.
I’m not sure how appealing Rubio will be to Mexican Ameircans, but I guess we’ll see.
I don’t know if I’ll be alive then but I’m not following anybody down the amnesty path. Period.
“hardline immigration line” “conservative core”
Another RINO heard from.
