Galveston County has extended voting hours until 8:54 pm. Votes after 7:00 will be counted as provisional. County will have further details available at the polling location and on Galveston County website.
Any idea what caused this extension?

Ya don’t say? Curious
Galveston’s computers crashed this morning — down for a couple of hours. Voting hours extended by agreement from both parties.

8:54 PM, and ballots after 7:00 provisional.
Is 7 the usual closing time? Given such an oddly specific time, I’d speculate that there was a polling place that opened late by that amount of time.
7:00 is the prescribed time in Texas. SnakeDoc sounds like he has good information. Interesting because first I heard was the email
I live in the Houston area. It was on the news this morning. Just heard about the extension on the same radio station.
Just computer problems in blood-red Texas. Nothing to see here. Return your attention to Pennsylvania and Ohio ...

County polls to stay open later
Kolishia Gitrey heads to the polling center at College of the Mainland in Texas City early Tuesday. After delays at polling centers, County Judge Mark Henry and Galveston County Democratic Party Chairman Lloyd Criss agreed the voting centers would need to stay open longer tonight.
This..
I stood in line quite awhile in TX this AM because someone had brought in about a dozen clients of MHMR requesting provisional ballots.
Yes, Texas polls close at 7 pm.
wondered when the dems in Texas would show up...
Are we supposed to know what MHMR stands for?
Took me an hour-and-twenty-minutes to vote in Katy two weeks ago.
A school bus full of kids rode by while we were standing in line ... kids were shouting “ROMNEY!” out the windows. Heh. Probably technically illegal campaigning at a polling location — but funny.

Mental Health Mental Retardation
I had to look it up. It is the name of a “Mental Health Mental Retardation” facility.

Mental Health-Mental Retardation, which I believe is an assumed name/DBA for the democrat party of Texas.
I will refrain from saying much but it was a sight to see.
Actually there is a competitive congressional race that includes Galveston County (Ron Paul’s open seat). Democrat Nick Lampson is attempting to return to Congress and is facing Republican State Rep. Randy Weber. Bill Clinton campaigned for Lampson a couple of weeks ago. Galveston County is the conservative part of the district. Looks like it will be late before the outcome is known.
What the hell does “provisional” mean? They only count it if things don’t work out the way the losing side wants?
I looked it up and according to my understanding, it is for some screw up in the system for someone already registered to vote. But that’s what they were doing and I’m not the only witness to the show.
