Runner Eliza Wierzbinska frowns with her marathon number at the Javits Center on Saturday. Even though she lives in New York City, she has sympathy for the runners who traveled in for the marathon and spent a lot of money to get to the Big Apple.
Marathoner Heather Nerhood, after flying in from Texas for the now-canceled race, couldnt just cool her heels Saturday.
Along with hundreds of other disappointed marathoners, Nerhood burned off her frustration by running through Central Park.
We were upset [Friday] because the announcement was made while we were at the Javits Center picking up our bibs, said Nerhood, a 41-year-old kindergarten teacher, referring to Mayor Bloombergs last-minute change of heart that slammed the brakes on the race.

Don't you think these people might be upset because they spent their own money getting there, only to have it canceled at the last minute by City Leaders who (like Obama) are playing 'politics' ???
Granted, it should be postponed or canceled due to the problems, but it should have been the first thing canceled, not the last.
TheBattman ~: I was robbed... spoken like a true entitlement whore from another neighborhood. How nice of them to be worried about their great loss. Some folks are truly self-centered.”
People are without water , starveing , and freezing , and this narcisist wants to run arround in shorts , with ‘free water’, and run arround in a circle to satisfy her own ego ?
You are in good company there in the “Nanny-State of Bloomberg “ of crass , insensative , self serveing merchandizing .
Glad to hear you got your tee shirt / sarc
Agreed they should have cancelled it earlier; Bloomberg was really stupid on this.
However it is low class to complain in this matter. New York didn’t want the storm.
Not surprised.
I played football in Jr. High and basketball in High School and briefly in College. Frequently, you had to run in those sports just to keep up with the play, but I just never "got" running for the sake of running.
Would you have spent your money to travel to a city that a bunch of people just died an dand are still dying in to go run?
I don’t give a ****ing sh!t if they wasted their money.
Fix yourself a martini and smoke a few cigarettes; you’ll feel better;)
I guess it really IS all about her.
These runners who are sooo disappointed should put their time toward volunteering to clear debris in some of the flooded out areas that the race was to run through.
I guess we can assume Heather Nerhood, the 41-year-old Kindergarten teacher, wasn’t one of the runners that pitched in to help with the relief effort?
Same here. And:
“Avoid running at all times.”
Satchel Paige
Agreed!
Must be an Obama voter.
Sounds like her students are way more mature than she is.
100% correct. Sometime before homeless New Yorkers were kicked out of their Hotels/Motels to make room for the runners and their entourage would have been nice.
Well, bless their hearts.
Aren’t they special.
I say we stop her at the border, we don't need her kind in our state.
ESPECIALLY teaching our kids.
