Romney: Vote for love of country, not revenge
Hot Air.com ^ | November 3, 2012 | ERIKA JOHNSON

ICYMI, on the campaign trail on Ohio on Friday, the president had just a few choice words about why people should get out and vote in response to rally-goers booing at the mention of Mitt Romney.

Obama Says Voting Is The Best Revenge

I won’t even waste a facepalm on this swing-and-a-miss, but I have to wonder: What, exactly, was the president thinking here? (I think it’s safe to guess that that was not on the teleprompter.) I realize it was meant to be a casually funny, throwaway remark, but when you’ve run such a doggedly negative campaign and people are craving that good ol’ Hopenchange spirit of days gone by, it just sounds snide and petty. This is the time in the race when you’d think both candidates would be going for an uplifting, positive tone, and “revenge” is a pretty harsh and loaded word that begs some logical questions: Revenge against whom? The GOP candidate who’s had the audacity to challenge him and his failed policies in this pesky democratic system of ours? Or, perhaps, could it be for revenge against the stagnant economy and failed policies of the last four years? That would make much more sense.

What’s more, it sets Romney up for some wholesome rejoinders, like this one:

Romney: Obama said to vote for revenge, I ask the American people to vote for love of country

Did you see what President Obama said today? He asked his supporters to vote for “revenge.” For “revenge.” Instead, I ask the American people to vote for love of country.

Easy peasy. This was at a mega-rally in Ohio last night, by the way, that turned up tens of thousands of supporters and included dozens of bigtime GOPers who’ll be stumping on Romney’s behalf throughout the battleground states in the closing days. Coming to a swing state near you, via CNN:

At least 40 of those surrogates appeared at the chilly outdoor rally with Romney and Ryan that drew a massive audience in the Cincinnati suburb– crowd estimates ranged from 18,000 to 30,000 – and included a performance by Kid Rock, who belted out “Born Free” from on top of a piano.

Guests included 2008 GOP presidential nominee Arizona Sen. John McCain; Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida; House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio; and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who delivered a series of blistering zingers against the president who rallied the crowd with line after line of reasons why Obama should “resign” and faulting him for “incompetence” over the Libya consulate attacks. …

Of the GOP powerhouse Romney said, “They are about to Fan out across the entire nation to make sure we have victory on November 6, and some comic on the team has named us the Romney-Ryan Real Recovery Road Rally – I got it out – that’s R6 for short. They’re going to make sure we win. Ohio is the center place. We’re going to make sure this is the place we take. And we’re going to take back the White House.”

Mitt Romney and his spouse are the class act in this Presidential election.

I wasn’t happy with him as a candidate, but I am getting happier by the day.

Romney: Vote for love of country, not revenge

Yes!! This is the perfect theme to counter a despicable demagogue, who has preached hatred against traditional American values & traditionally minded Americans, his entire adult life. (You do not sit in the pews for 20 years, in a Church where the Pastor damns America, unless you hate America and her people.)

Don't worry, they'll get back to being their usual “tough” “investigative” “unbiased” “defenders of the nations interests” selves right after Romney is sworn in. The last 4 years of sycophancy and brown-nosing will have never happened. There will be no stone unturned in their efforts to root out any whiff of “corruption” or “cover-up” by the Romney administration. The kids won't be off-limits. Maybe Romney's being a Mormon who doesn't even drink caffeine will come in handy here.

Wow, just saw an Obama ad on Philly TV. His line of attack in this heavily Catholic and pro-life region? Get after Romney for wanting to see Roe v. Wade overturned and Planned Parenthood abolished. Stupid. And a good sign that the Obama campaign is seeing something in their polling here that they don’t like.

Oh, and that ad was on the Notre Dame game. Lots of Catholics watching - BWAHAHA!

I read that during a Michelle O Rally a nine year old was heard saying “if Romney wins we will have to go back to the crop fields.”

The Dems are using the race card and their preaching it to people they believe they can take advantage of with lies like these. Sad how people don’t realize that both Lincoln and Martin Luther King were Republicans.

We all know what he meant by revenge.

I have lived in predominantly (in fact, overwhelmingly) black urban areas. Towns where my children would have been less than 1 per cent of the non-black kids in the public school, had I been so foolish as to enroll them in any public school.

Here’s what I took away from the experience: some black people, like some white people, nurse grudges. Some exist in a state of perpetual grievance, and their lives are virtually BUILT on resentment. They inhale and exhale wrath, envy and grudge.

And some don’t.

Obama’s people are the ones he was addressing. They’re angry, mostly with secondhand anger.

These people may be black; and they may be white. It isn’t their skin, it’s their stupidity.

Reasonable thinking people come in all colors. Even unreasonable people usually have their priorities in basic order. God, family — even idiots get it, usually.

But Obama’s people are the small, envious, resentful wound lickers.

We may take him quite literally. They want “revenge” because they really think someone else started it, and they need to hurt somebody back.

As usual, Obama off-TOTUS is as sincere as it gets. No need to parse or sweat the hermeneutics. He said “revenge” because he’s talking to those who thirst for it.

The fact that they have had to explain his remarks show that it got enough attention and negative play to get on their radar. 4 days to go and you are having to have a spokesperson explain something away....not good. On a side note there is no good explanation or spin. Revenge on what? Fellow Americans that don’t agree with you? You know even when we were attacked on 9/11 the word revenge was never used. It also doesn’t help him that this was a small sound bite of a phrase kind of like “ You didn’t build that”. It’s just too easy to repeat and no way to spin. I found it to be very defensive. Means things are not going well if you have to resort to revenge to fire up your base. Revenge does not help me find a job or put food on the table. He’s lost it!

“I think it has everything to do with the color of Barack Obama...”

I think Americans of all colors are fed up with his incompetence to one degree or another. People are not voting against him because he’s black or they wouldn’t have elected him in the first place. This whole “revenge” thing just solidifies the point in people’s minds - we need jobs not political revenge.
