To: Red Badger

Hmmm, when I was about 10 or 11 years old I used to pick strawberries for a lovely elderly couple who had a little strawberry patch and market stand. When I was in my teens, I picked corn for market for some neighbors. I sorted beans on conveyer belts, drove tractors, picked and bunched onions, hoed pepper plant fields, etc. That’s right, I worked in ‘crop fields,’ and by doing so, I managed to save quite a bit of $$$ for college and managed to graduate with *very* little debt which I paid off way ahead of schedule...

I picked cucumbers (gherkins) for 75 cents a bushel in summer of 1967. It was the only work around for anybody, much less teens. I picked with white people, black people, young and old, male and female. We did not complain and we were in MISSISSIPPI......................
