I just googled the “AK-47 pistol”. Interesting.

This case illustrates PRECISELY why certain types of arms should not be prohibited in the United States: No law enforcement officer knows about every possible type of firearm, and taking an attitude of "prone 'em out when in doubt" (I have actually heard this) violates our 2nd Amendment rights, as well as our right to be free from false arrest.

Message to government: LEAVE US ALONE! We should be able to procure, own and carry ANY firearm or knife or sword we please, as long as we attack no one.

No Stock = pistol, regardless of barrel length.

Add a stock, it’s a rifle and barrel must be 16 inches or more.

If the barrel on a rifle is less than 16 inches, it’s a “Short Barrel Rifle” and subject to taxation and registration as a Class III firearm under the terms of NFA of 1936(?).

AK47 pistol? Sounds good to me.

I have two mini draco ak pistols that look exactly like this photo.
draco
These weapons are classified as pistols, but shoot and use regular ak 47 magazines and ammo.
The case cited by the article is about a man who was arrested by a cop (in Tennessee, I think) who does not know the law and thinks the guy had an unregistered short barreled rifle. This should be a slam dunk case for the plaintiff.

I agree. The 6th cirsuit states that the ranger had qualified immunity because my handgun was 1/2 inch shorter than the legal limit, even though they made no attempt to measure it in the two hours I was held against my will.

The thought process of the 6th circuit COA will now allow cops to detain persons carrying 16.25 inch barreled rifles or 18.25 inch barreled shotguns.

Didn’t they let you go? Still painting the muzzle of your Draco orange to make it look like a toy?

The shoulder stock of an AK comes off with a couple of phillips-head bolts as I recall. I haven’t stripped one in a while, I think the last one I took down I installed a folding stock on it. Looks neat!

If you are the fellow on youtube, thanks for your ak pistol reviews on Youtube. They helped me in my decision to purchase the dracos.

Have you bought the new Yugo m92s that just came out.
In your opinion, how do they compare to the dracos? Thanks.

“The shoulder stock of an AK comes off with a couple of phillips-head bolts as I recall.”
Dont do it! If the receiver was not originally sold as a ‘pistol’ then you are on very thin ice converting it to one after the fact. If you cut down the barrel of something that was legally a rifle then you could be prosecuted.

I believe AK pistols generally use rear trunnions that have no provision for attaching a butt stock (folding or fixed)...

I don't either and your reply was hilarious. What the heck is up with uneducated/ignorant reporters these days?

Well, my fellow Texan as you may or may not know ....since the San Antonio Express News and it's companion site, mysanantonio, are usually just liberal garbage, I was just going to post this often-used chart to express my feelings. However, the reporter in question actually properly named the classification of firearm and succinctly stated the Tennessee laws concerning pistols. I am really surprised about this. However, I am not surprised that many police officers, judges, and citizen passers-by would be ignorant of /and or contemptuous of the law and fearful of this "evil" black weapon. Anyhow, here's the chart for most journalists, and apparently many police, democrat-appointed judges, and a very large portion of the gun-fearful public:
ak 47
