Even as the lion's share of attention in the presidential campaign goes to the battleground of Ohio and the storm-battered states of the Mid-Atlantic, the outcome to the south, in the nation's largest swing state, now seems very much in doubt.
Mitt Romney moved into a lead here after the first presidential debate, and since then, aides have insisted that Florida, with its 29 electoral votes, sat solidly in their column. But with several polls showing President Obama's fortunes improving here and Democrats performing well in early voting as of Thursday morning, they led by about 59,000 out of more than 3 million absentee and in-person early votes Romney has had to devote precious hours to defending his position in the state.
With polls now in a dead heat, Romney campaigned in Florida on Saturday, returned Wednesday for rallies in Tampa, Miami and Jacksonville, and is expected back over the weekend, when Obama also is scheduled to campaign here.
For Obama, victory in Florida is a prize; for Romney it's a necessity. Debates about whether Romney can carry Ohio or other Midwestern states become moot without a win here.

I’ve done something I’ve never done before- I’ve gone to my local Romney headquarters in the evenings and made phone calls here in the Orlando area. We call all state area codes. On balance- the support for Romney has been much higher than for O. I’d say 2/3 Romney in the calls I’ve made.
It’s wonderful to speak with supporters and listen to them but there’s another side. MANY of the people I speak with are 80 and over. They are dismayed and bewildered and some are honestly heartbroken. They do no understand Obama- how he got here and what he’s done to America. Thanking them for getting their ballots in the mail or getting a ride to the polls with their grandson or neighbor is humbling. They see voting as a civic honor and duty and at least the ones I’ve spoken with have made it a priority.
My inner concern troll agrees with you. Never under estimate the herculean task involved in voting out a sitting President. The 0ne had a 9.5 million popular vote plurality in 2008 and Mitt started out needing to take away 97 EV's from the imposter. Face it, Romney will need an almost perfect electoral storm to overcome the odds. The moral to the story is that FRpeeers need to vote and work at GOTV like their nation's existence depended on it because it does. Overconfidence now is the enemy.
My daughter just flipped!!! she is in 2 hr voting line for ROMNEY!!!! thats two flips and one who didnt vote in 08.
My other daughter is making calls today she said everyone is EXCITED when she calls.
Great!! I also enjoy doing phone banking here in FL!
To those who can give some time this weekend, please know it DOES help to make calls and also to reach out to neighbors....even the DEMS. I ask strangers first if they voted yet. And if they didn’t I start my questions. :)
>>Down 59,000 in 2012 vs. 370,000 in 2008 is a big improvement, right? Especially when Obama only won in 08 by 240,000.
You would agree correct? Numbers dont lie.<<
Only problem is that these aren’t votes being tallied, but ballots. We don’t know which boxes have been checked on all those early ballots.
That said, I think there’s a heck of a lot more Dems who are checking Romney this year, than GOPers who are checking Obama.
Slowly and painfully, the facts about Obama are breaking through.
I don’t see what business it is of yours how she spends your money.
Yes!
From what I have been hearing and seeing, the propganda part is that obama is tied with Romney. Limbaugh is saying this is deliberate on the part of the pollsters to give the Democrats a reason to go to court ad say “The Republicans sto;e the election”. They would claim that all trhe polls showed obama leading, yet Romney had the most votes. thhen they could begin the tried and true Democrat recounts. Limbaugh further stated that the Democrats already have the lawyers and the papers drawn up, awaiting filing.
I spent 1.5 hours in line today at a Library in Jacksonville to cast my ballot. There was A LOT of people standing in line with me who were very clearly Obama voters. It was a little discouraging. Any Floridian reading this post, please get your butt to the voting booth between now and 7:00 pm next Tuesday.
Federal paper shuffling and resume building. The Federal Register contains many such entries that are required by law but matter little outside of the bureaucracy. The real point of such requirements is to help Congress watch what the President and the executive agencies are doing.
Now, let's just hope it was a Romney representative and not one of the bad guys.
I voted today. The first polling place had a tremendous line out the door and around the building.
The second place was merely packed with a line to the door.
Sure. I’ll bet the author a grand that Romney wins Florida.
BTW, no votes are counted until election day so when you hear Obama has 59,000 more votes than Romney in Florida you know from the gitgo the author is FOS.
Here’s the sitrep for Broward County:
Almost no Obama signs, plenty of Romney signs, and lots and lots of Romney bumper stickers.
No, this isn’t a scientific way of looking at this, but it is what is.
Thanks for the report! I have heard that the voting lines have been long all over the state! I think it means a big win for Romney!!
