Joining the chorus of Roman Catholic clergy in Illinois criticizing President Barack Obama before next week's election, Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky ordered priests to read a letter to parishioners on Sunday before the presidential election, explaining that politicians who support abortion rights also reject Jesus.
"By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass," Jenky wrote in a letter circulated to clergy in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.
In the letter, Jenky cautions parishioners that Obama and a majority of U.S. senators will not reconsider the mandate that would require employers, including religious groups, to provide free birth control coverage in their health care plans. "This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system," Jenky wrote.
"Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord," Jenky added. "They are objectively guilty of grave sin."
Will this offset bloomberg’s endorsement of Obama ?
I have heard estimates that over 50 percent of Catholic bishops voted for Obama in 2008.
I really like this Bp. Jenky.
Peoria Catholic bishop assails Obama on abortion
Artlcle has following subtitle (which is interesting):
Letter to parishioners is similar to pre-election statements issued by Springfield and Rockford dioceses
I have heard estimates that over 50 percent of Catholic bishops voted for Obama in 2008.
Source please?
Not Cardinal George. I don’t think this Bishop would have.
And it sounds, from the subtitle of the article in the Chicago Tribune on this, that the Bishops of Rockford and Springfield did not vote for him...
Good for him, if he actually mentions Obama by name. I think that’s necessary, so parishioners can’t pretend to themselves that they don’t know which candidate is pro-abortion.
The GOP platform is strongly pro-life, but the politicians on the national level barely mention the subject. McCain never brought it up, and neither has Romney to any great extent. And of course the press covers for Obama. All people are told is that he is “pro women.”
I don’t think Bp Jenky did!
Will this action actually influence the election?
Bam-Bam has been running ads on Washington, DC television stations with multiple sound clips of Romney saying that he wants to see Roe v. Wade overturned, and wants to de-fund Planned Parenthood ... followed by "I'm Barack 0bama, and I approved this message."
They're the best pro-Romney ads I have ever seen.
What level within the Church does it take to ex-communicate these bastards? Just do it already.
I had a head-to-head dealing with Bishop DiLorenzo, very revealing. I’ll tell you about it if you like.
What the Bishop wrote in the letter follows:
Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord. They are objectively guilty of grave sin. For those who hope for salvation, no political loyalty can ever take precedence over loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ and to his Gospel of Life. God is not mocked, and as the Bible clearly teaches, after this passing instant of life on earth, Gods great mercy in time will give way to Gods perfect judgment in eternity.

If he’s not interested, I am.
And I’d bet other FReepers are as well.
Bloomberg’s might, as well as Christie’s. what did Obama promise them?
Problem is, regardless of who is running the ads and for what purpose, Romney has no intention whatsoever to lift a finger to overturn Roe v Wade, homo marriage, open homo military, or anything else “That is already done”. As Ryan says, “Let’s move on”. Anyone voting for R-R expecting any of that to happen is going to be severely disappointed.
Huh...I know Dan Jenky...Notre Dame, Holy Cross guy, used to be the rector of Dillon Hall.
