NBC will air a concert featuring singers Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Christina Aguilera on Friday to benefit victims of monster storm Sandy, which devastated parts of the U.S. Northeast with flooding and winds this week.
The special will be broadcast on the networks of NBC Universal, and money collected from the program will be donated to the American Red Cross relief efforts, NBC said on its website.
The benefit concert, titled "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together," will be hosted by Today show anchor Matt Lauer, the TV network said. Along with Springsteen, whose songs often center on his upbringing on the New Jersey shore, most of the performers are from areas hard-hit by the storm.

Do these people really think they are transparent in their attempt to promote obama (bronoc bamma, earlier thread)
The most awesome part is that practically nobody will be watching Springsteen is loved by many, but listened to by a lot less than he used to be. He appeared in Moncton, New Brunswick Canada at a venue that normally holds 80 to 100,000 people for concerts by the likes of U2, the Stones, AC-DC, etc They assumed that the Boss would draw large crowds as well, but it turned out to be a bust and he only managed to gather 20 to 25,000 concert goers.
This may be an opportunity for one last laugh before the election though Springsteen, Bon Jovi, or somebody else is obviously going to get their you gotta vote for Obama line on live TV. Madonna did it at a concert in California and got booed, maybe the same will happen tomorrow night. Fingers crossed.
Had that conversation several times this week here in FL. I do think the devastation of some of those NJ towns is significant and a few pockets in NY, but it was a Cat 1 storm, and most of the damage we saw in other areas were simply big old trees uprooted and typical storm surge.
Will Kanye come on and say, “Mitt Romney doesn’t care about black people”?
Obama is the like slacker, who has avoided layoffs for the last four years cause he’s a nice guy (psst and he’s a minority). But due to his neverending incompetence, and lack of work ethic, the decision has been made to let him go. The date has been set and nothing can reverse it...
But suddenly, right before his last day, somebody spills coffee. Obama quickly hustles over with a mop, desperately hoping the bosses will forget the four years of incompetence and instead reward him for promptly cleaning up the mess.
You know I’m feeling terribly conflicted about this. I am all for humanitarian relief.
I am just having a terrible conflict knowing there’s a 80-90% chance that helping people that live in Manhattan are the same people that would call me a racist, bigoted, narrow minded, Bible thumping teabagger if I merely walked the streets in their neighborhood and they knew my political beliefs.
I’m disgusted by all of these rich celebrities that go on TV begging working stiffs to cough up their dough.
Is there an old Jimmy Stewart movie on another channel ?
I hope they Wellstone it..

If true, by law, doesn’t NBC have to give Romney equal time?
Springsteen is also a victim. He is part owner of the Chapel Beach Club in Sea Bright. It is gone.
My heart bleeds for Bruce... [sarc]
With the electricity interrupted - many people in New jersey will be spared the agony.
Singing to the already converted pod people.
The celebrities in this benefit concert probably gave more money to the Obama campaign than they will raise Friday.
Because the devastation in Staten Island, the lack of a response, Mr. Molinaro said to explain his comment to NBC after the press conference. You know, I went to a shelter Monday night after the storm. People were coming in with no socks, with no shoes. They were in desperate need. Their housing was destroyed. They were crying. Where was the Red Cross? Isnt that their function? They collect millions of dollars. Whenever theres a drive in Staten Island, we give openly and honestly. Where are they? Where are they? I was at the South Shore yesterday, people were buried in their homes. There the dogs are trying to find bodies. The people there, the neighbors who had no electricity, were making soup. Making soup. Its very emotional because the lack of a response. The lack of a response. Theyre supposed to be here
.They should be on the front lines fighting, and helping the people. http://politicker.com/2012/11/staten-island-borough-president-dont-give-money-to-the-red-cross/
those other disasters weren’t a Big Wind. Obama is only going to recognize the disasters that have something in common with him.
OF COURSE THE TIMING IS SUSPECT AS WELL.
OK, I’ll watch a replay of LSU-Alabama from 2004 instead. Or I’ll watch a Godzilla movie. Or Leave it to Beaver reruns. Actually, it’s far more likely I’ll play “Age of Empires” with my son. But you can bet your paycheck watching the 0bamathon won’t be dead last on my list of things to do Friday. It won’t be on the list at all.
Telethon OBAMA COMMERCIAL
If it is, don’t they have to give Romney equal time????
I’d rather watch a test pattern.
