As New York City spent a second night plunged in darkness shameless criminals got to work looting abandoned stores and homes across the metropolis. At least 13 suspected thieves have been arrested since Hurricane Sandy struck the city around 6.30pm on Monday evening. Thousands of police and National Guard troops are patrolling the city and keeping guard in the worst-hit areas in a bid to deter any opportunistic crooks. As hundreds of thousands of the city's residents were left without power, some wily criminals posed as Con Edison energy workers to dupe their victims, reported the New York Post

They think they’re getting a head start on b0nehead’s redistribution. Stinkin’ animals.
As much as looting may tick us off, property and things are not worth a human life, nor are they worth opening up the possibilities to idiots to simply shoot on sight any "trespassers". I want bad things for the looters too, but I think it's a bad idea to open up that little drawer of Pandora's Box.
WE pay for those phones with a surcharge added to our cell phone bills... Seems only fair to take the free phones away from people convicted of a crime...

Years ago, I knew some missionaries to Haiti under the rule of Papa Doc. One day they were walking through a market place and someone stole something and took off running. Almost immediately the Ton-Ton-Macutes were on him and beat the man half to death.
The missionaries were horrified at what they saw when a merchant took them aside and told them that this had to be. If they let one get away with it, everyone would do it and they would have everything stolen from them and there could be no market at all.
I traced all their identities back to some white liberal high school aged kids from New Jersey who were probably just being bone headed. One of the kids (who seemed to be an instigator) had actually impersonated a gangster / looter before during the london riots. I don’t know yet if there is an OWS angle here or just some wannabe Anonymous type.

Then shoot shovel and shut up!
Considering all the water there; Make that statement “shoot sink and shut up.” =)
Really convenient: Load Dead Lootie onto floating detritus & give it a shove. Let him stink up the place - someplace else.
“They could just illegally download some of her songs.”
Looters will only steal what they want or think is valuable.
Surreal- that this trash is posting this and getting away with it.
After Katrina hit people put up signs like We shoot looters, Looters come through my door lie dead on the floor and such. It is a deterent. They may be stupid looter scum but they’re not that stupid.
I guess we have had these low lifes with us since the beginning of time but I will never get used to people stealing from people who are hurting. I think there is a special place in hell for these people.
Probably people in most of the area hit by Sandy have no guns.
Shame.
funny you should mention that,
During Andrew freezer equipped tractor trailers carried out bodies of dead victims en masse. We always wondered if it was the storm that killed them or “something else”. Anyway a lot of the bad guys disappeared after Andrew.
Those darn white folk : )
When chaos ensues, interpersonal scores get settled without the threat of the rule of law. See the French Revolution.
True.
But after a while, those gone feral get comfortable with taking "property", and then move on to "persons".
"Nipped in the bud" is a valuable life lesson.
Was that guy “ looter guy” from the Katrina Hurricane ever identified? Just wondering.
