Remember how Hurricane Katrinas aftermath was blamed on President Bush? Remember his words to then-FEMA director, Brownie, youre doing a heck of a job?
No doubt FEMA is all geared up for the damage Hurricane Sandy will do throughout the Northeast and wide swatches to the West. And no doubt it will be the States and local communities and utilities that will do the heavy lifting as FEMA tries to give the appearance of doing anything useful.
All of which is bad newsactually more bad newsfor President Obama who, insanely campaigning, flew to Orlando, Florida on Sunday and then immediately flew back to Washington, DC, without leaving the airport. Just how much did that little round-trip cost the taxpayers? How stupid and indifferent does one have to be to leave Washington as a major hurricane is bearing down on the Northeasts coasts?
The good news is that the storm has closed down Washington and, for all intents and purposes, the federal government. New York City, too, is a ghost town as everyone hunkers down. The bad news for Obama is that he is likely be blamed for whatever occurs in the wake of the hurricane because thats what we do.
Katrina was especially damaging because it was a category 5 hurricane and Hurricane Sandy as of this writing early Monday morning is still a category 1 and likely to be downgraded to a tropical storm as it moves over land. New Orleans, built in a bowl below sea level, was a disaster waiting to happen.
Since Obamas response to such events is to get on television and read his Tele-Prompter, it will remind people of his penchant for giving speeches instead of actually producing results. His lack of candorhis liesregarding Benghazi-gate is, for him, the perfect storm.

A levee broke in New Jersey. It must have been Bush’s fault.
It’s “coup de grâce” (not blaming you, Rooster, but the headline writer).
A "stroke of the goose?"
Tough to take this essay seriously.
First reason, it’s not coup de gras (which, I guess, would mean roughly, “blow of fat”).
The last time Obama ran for president, the world economy collapsed. This time we got Frankenweenie. the “perfect storm”. Two “perfect storms” in a row. It appears someone is trying to tell us something. One thing for sure, disasters are the politician’s best friend.
Oh I thought “gras” meant “goose.” I guess it means “fat.”
I thought “coup” meant “stroke,” but I guess it means “blow” or “strike.”

“Smack the Fat” sounds like a pretty good description of Obama’s recent campaign trajectory at any rate.
I was thinking “coup de fois gras”, which is kind of an amusing image, really; a little classier slapstick than the cream pie in the face.
Ha ha! LOLROTF!
Maybe it was a play on words, ‘gras’ meaning ‘fat’..........
Alan Caruba is usually a very sensible writer. He will kick himself over that error.
Hmmm, I sure could eat a little liver pate about now...perhaps some foie gras.
Gras means ‘fat’ as in Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday......
Hey RR! I had to read this twice. He "flew back...without leaving the airport"?
I think I need some coffee - obviously I'm a little s-l-o-w this a.m." HA! hb
Yes of course. I should have made that connection myself.
So "pate de foie gras" means "paste of fat liver," not - as I have believed for years - "liver of fat goose."
I do like “blow of fat” though.
lol...more coffee needed at this end too. Perhaps Obama, in addition to controlling the rise and fall of seas, is now able to bend time and space.
That's funny, Steely Tom!
I hope more in the media make the contrast that when four Americans were killed by terrorists Obama went on the campaign trail to Las Vegas the very next day, but with a week long advance of a hurricane heading toward the US he suddenly wants to appear in charge and cancels campaign events.
A "stroke of the goose?"
I think it means a seizure a political power by fat people.
