CBS News) New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke to "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which made landfall near Atlantic City, N.J. and wreaked havoc statewide.
"The state of New Jersey took it in the neck worse than any other state," Christie said of the storm's effects. "It's going to take us a while to dig out from under it, but we will dig out from under it," he added.
Christie called the level of cooperation between the local, state and federal governments "excellent" and praised President Obama's involvement. "I was on the phone for the third time yesterday, last night, with the president of the United States. He called me at midnight last night as he was seeing reports," he said before adding that President Obama accelerated the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area "without the usual red tape."
"The cooperation has been great with FEMA here on the ground and the cooperation from the president of the United States has been outstanding. He deserves great credit," Christie added.

Ah, so since you didn’t suffer damage, it wasn’t a disaster.
It IS NOT a disaster. We are taking an area almost half the size of the country and tallying up every incident like it happened in one place. C’mon, don’t fall for the media spin on this. Ridiculous. It isn’t the end of the world, garbage will be picked up on Mondays as always; go back to your life and leave chicken little behind.
Usually Freepers incorporate facts into their opinions. It appears you are an exception.
Oh no? NOT THE JERSEY SHORE?
I was so waiting for a comment from someone who feels like I do about this guy.
Do y’all recall during the Romney VP selection era how “leaks” kept being made about Christie’s consideration for the slot.
I’ve watched Christie throughout this and yes, he’s been on top of it. But so has O’Malley and Bloomingbird and all the others including mine own Markell.
Christie answered a question about the political election from a reporter and he got so snarky/snipey. “I’m not the least bit interested in the politics of all this,” he said with a snarl and hey, it sounded good. I got a bridge to sell, now slightly under water, to anyone believes politics never crossed Christie’s pretty fat head.
This morning he gives yet another news conference (dear Lord he’s had them all weekend as NJ bore a big brunt of the storm but I’m not at all clear how endless news conferences help) and he’s all the drama mama.
Christie never met a camera he didn’t like. This morning he even beat camera-loving Bloomingbird to the podium.
Heh.
Only a complete jackass would belittle so many homes and businesses getting flooded. Later, jerk.
Yes, I read a report before this happened estimating it would take 50 billion dollars to fix the subway system if it got flooded. Unlike you, I do try to incorporate facts into my opinions.
On another note.. It looks like Sandy will create more jobs than Barack.. :)
New Jersey has been devastated by Sandy. Christie needs the federal help. Do you think he wants to anger Obummer right now? He’s thinking of his state. This comment will be soon forgotten.
You’re full of it.. Most of the estimates are for $20 billion of the ENTIRE event. Get a clue.

Don’t waste time on this pantywaist, db. He is a coward who is trying to get people banned while skirting getting banned himself. You know the type - if he met you in person he would crying for forgiveness.
Thanks Governor, you are a real help in this election.
I am sure Obama worked really hard giving approval by signing a piece of paper and making a speech, amazing kudos on that.
lol
If I met you in person you would be quiet as a mouse.

“Storm damage was projected at $10 billion to $20 billion”
You do realize you are quoting estimates before damaged has begun to be assessed, do you? And you also realize that even if it is "only" 20 billion, it still would be in the top ten hurricane damage tallies?
Let’s see...a levee on the Hackensack River broke and flooded a community...Christie reports that EVERY rail line in New Jersey was damaged...extensive damage on the Jersey Shore and in Atlantic City...people on rooftops, waiting to be rescued...
I’d say that to Christie, right now, in his role as Governor of the state, it IS a crisis, much more immediate to him right now in that role than Presidential politics. Believe me, knowing how petty and petulant (and vengeful) our community organizer-in-chief can be, I really can’t blame him for throwing Obummer a bone right now, just to be sure that New Jersey gets the help they need.
You show me where anyone said New Orleans had dodged a bullet. Show me. You are so full of it.
Insurance companies don’t seem to be worried:
Keep hyping it up, but you are only helping Obama.
