Former president Bill Clinton is slated to visit the University of Minnesota Duluth campus Tuesday afternoon, making his first return visit to Duluth since Nov. 4, 1994.
During his prior stop in Duluth, President Clinton went for a morning jog on Skyline Parkway with then-mayor Gary Doty and stumped at UMD for Ann Wynia in her unsuccessful congressional bid. She ultimately lost that race to Sen. Rod Grams.
This time around, Clinton will lend his support to the campaigns of fellow Democrats including former Congressman Rick Nolan, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and President Barack Obama.
A recent Star Tribune poll showed President Obama in a tightening race with his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney. It indicated Obama’s lead in Minnesota had shrunk to 3 points — a narrow spread that falls within the poll’s 3.5 percent margin of error.
UMD’s Kirby Ballroom will host the event, with doors set to open at 12:30 p.m. No tickets will be required, and admission will be granted on a first-come basis. The ballroom’s maximum capacity is 750 people.
Ben Dufault, president of UMD’s College Democrats, expects the visit will energize the campus.
He observed that many young voters have been less politically active this year than they were during the last presidential race.
“Generally speaking, I think a lot of people are not as enthusiastic as they were in 2008, but the closer and closer we get to the election, the more people are getting revved up,” Dufault said.

When the star of their convention and campaign, Bill Clinton, is sent to not Florida, or Colorado, or even Wisconsin, but sent instead to as until just recently “solidly Obama” Minnesota, you know the bottom is falling out of support for O.

I never understood/or will understand the whole attraction, allure to Clinton! It’s funny because I have friends/acquaintances who still love Clinton for some reason, even though they can’t clearly articulate why! But, they’re voting Romney this election!
I’m thinking this is the same for 2008 indie Obama voters..they voted for him the first time because it was cool, first black Pres etc.. but now the whole allure has fizzled.

You can drive through Duluth and see Elizabeth Warren yard signs along Hwy. 61 North! Shows how nuts this city is. Yet, the need to send the sinkmaster here is telling that 0’s in for a big loss.
