1. All those people who stayed in Manhattan, because they live in high-risers, now realzie that their elevators don't work.
2. Just about every hi-rise apt building in Manhattan has underground parking..often 40-50 feet BELOW ground level..think of all those Caddys, Mercedes, Jags, and the odd Rolls and Ferrari, now totally submerged..
Imagine if this were a cat 3 or higher storm with more of a direct hit? It would make Katrina look like a summer outing.
Many of those submerged cars will show up in used car lots in the Midwest. Make sure you use carfax when purchasing a used car or have it inspected by a mechanic.
You may not have intended it but your post sounds snarky. I have 2 children in NYC. Honestly, I have been amazed at how nice most people are. I always thought New Yorkers were some sort of alien to live in a city that size (I live in Denver). Both kids are holed up in an apartment in the financial district but have no power. It is difficult to not be able to do anything.

I think the security systems often depend on key cards, not keys. If you leave your building, you might not be able to get back in. Plus, negotiating stairwells in the dark is sure to be fun too.

Not all New Yorkers are rich. This storm has wreaked havoc. I have no power and three people in Westchester county are dead. Two were brothers who were killed when a tree hit their house. This storm may be the equivalent of Katrina to New York.

I think most of Manhattan still has electricity.
