CNY. We’ve got some light, gusty winds but are getting some decent rainfall at the moment. It just started a little bit ago.
I talked to a sister in Western NY and she said they’re expecting a lot of power outages due to downed trees. The winds will be coming out of a different direction than usual and blowing against the normal growth of the trees. Buffalo gets pretty consistent westerly winds to the trees have grown to adapt to that. Since the winds will be coming from a different direction, the root systems won’t have the strength to deal with it and could come down easily.
I could see that being an issue here in CNY as well. The prevailing southwesterlies and all.
As with all aspects of this storm, time will tell.
Stay safe. I have close relatives just outside of Philly. I was worried about their trees. They told me they are camping in the basement...thank goodness.
So far we are doing ok, windy and strong gusts, heavy rain at times but I haven’t heard of any power outages as of yet.
I live on Grand Island between Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
