DETROIT -- Marco Scutaro singled home the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Sunday night to complete a four-game sweep and win their second World Series title in three years.
Ryan Theriot, who went hitless for St. Louis in Game 7 of last year's Series, singled softly into right field off Phil Coke opening the 10th. Brandon Crawford sacrificed, nearly bunting the ball past Coke. Angel Pagan struck out and Scutaro singled into short center field as Theriot slid home ahead of Austin Jackson's throw.

For the Tigers...despite Fielders reg. season production, I don't think he's a good clubhouse guy, and his postseason flop might give him a stigma that may stay with him the rest of his career.
While it sucks to lose, I mostly feel sorry for Mr. Ilitch...by the looks of him, this might have been his last chance.

The team is not necessarily like the city, The fan base draws from some really conservative areas of the Bay Area. I know folks don’t like SF because it is California and all but consider that Detroit is run by the dems and is at least as bad. Besides the Tigers were doomed because of the Obama curse....
Yeah, I sat thru a lot of cold, damp, foggy, windy, miserable days and nights at Candlestick Park in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s in that dump watching lousy baseball.
Amazing how the 2010 Giants won the WS and the 2012 Giants overcame an 0-2 deficit on the road against the Reds, then overcame a 1-3 deficit against the Cardinals, then swept the “unbeatable” Tigers, 4-0
First team to win 2 WS in 3 years in the NL since the Big Red Machine in the mid-70’s.
And a young team to boot, so they’re not done yet.
Bumgarner, Lincecum, Cain, Sandoval, Crawford, Belt, Posey (Likely NL MVP) Gregor Blanco and others.
Great defensive team too.
Even that goofball Hunter Pence contributed.
This team will contend for a while.
Giants came back from 0-2 against the Reds on the road, 1-3 against the Cards, then sweep the “unbeatable” Tigers and end up winning their last 7 playoff/WS games, and 8 of their last 11 playoff and WS games - amazing.
Winning 7 straight playoff/WS games is a huge task.
One of the best playoff runs I’ve ever seen and I’ve been watching BB since Bob Gibson against the Tigers in 1968, one of the most dominant teams I’ve ever seen, even though the Cards lost but I felt they were the better team.
I vaguely remember the Cards winning in 67 and Gibson dominating, but was a bit too young to care/remember.
Keep in mind, not everyone born and raised in SF is a flaming lib - many of us are conservative and California used to be a Conservative State and God willing, will be again someday.
It’s mostly the “transplants” that are liberals and are the ones that have ruined this once great city and state.
The Giants organization does an excellent job of honoring veterans and our wounded soldiers; a triple amputee soldier threw out the first pitch of Game 2. Barry Zito runs a charity to help the wounded and their families. All in all, the organization, its players and its fans are ok.
The libs must go to the A’s because those fans are just nasty.

Thanks. As a long time Giants fan, I know that others don’t like us much because it is after all one of the most liberal cities in the world. It amazes me really because people don’t react to NYC teams that way....but hey it has been an incredible season and really enjoyable finale.
And yes the organization does a lot for our vets and wounded warriors. The do it with out a lot of fanfare but it has always been so

I feel your pain! I remember one night we had upper deck box seats right behind the dish and ended up going down to the lower reserve sets down the right field line just to get out of the Arctic wind blast coming down over the hill behind the stadium.
I remember when they were talking about how much better AT&T would be weather wise and wouldn't believe it since they were only a mile or so apart until I was sitting in the cheap seats in the upper deck at AT&T wearing a T shirt during a night game, looking at candlestick and watching the fog boil over the hill and dump into the park. unbelievable.
I did see Willie Mays get his 3000th hit when I was 10 years old there before they closed it in, great day with my Pop, it was ball day as well.
I've got a buddy who knew somebody who had season tickets that he scored from time to time that were in Section 1, Row 1, seats 1 and 2, lower boxes. Awesome. I have a couple copies of the green sheet (sports section of the Chronicle) with me and my buddy standing up screaming behind Bonds (Pre-Roids ;) ) after he hit a Jack against the Rockies in the last year or so at the stick.
I remember the occasional gunshots that used to come from that hill behind Candlestick, along with the fog that used to roll down that hill.
As for that Veteran that threw out the first pitch, he could barely walk but he threw a heater for a strike and a far better pitch than Obama could ever throw.
And he threw it from the mound.
Not enclosing Candlestick until 1970 or so cost Willie Mays around 150 HR’s, along with his Military Service.
He lost a lot of HR’s to the Candlestick wind when the Stadium wasn’t enclosed for a majority of his career and his prime year (1953) in the Army.
By his own estimate, he says 150 HR’s and Mays is a modest guy.
660 = 150 = 810 HR’s, and that’s playing in the Polo Grounds and Candlestick Park - not exactly hitters parks.
The Tigers refused to quit (other than the whole, quit hitting the ball these last four games) during the season, caught and eliminated the White Sox, and *best of all* swept the Yankees in the ALCS. Winning the World Series would merely have been the icing. :’) It was a great season. And I say that as someone who often has to change the station when Huge gets bitching about “Jimmy Smokes”.

Very true. I never liked Bonds and always felt he was a drag on that team with his diva-like demands and ego.
This group of guys is about the TEAM. And I`m glad they didn`t bring back Melky Cabrera.. that would`ve damaged the chemistry.
