Romney and Obama ads in Boston? [Vanity]

So, I was sitting in a restaurant at Logan in Boston eating an over-priced, over-cooked burger with my wife and son, a little sad to be leaving to go back home after a pleasant weekend visit with my other son at college.

I'm absent-mindedly looking at the boob tube when I see images of Mitt Romney. Initially I figure, oh, it's probably news covering the campaign. Then I realize, no, they're saying nice things about the governor, so it can't be news coverage. Then I see, "This ad approved by Mitt Romney," or something like that.

I remark to my wife and son, I just saw a Romney ad! And we're in BOSTON!

I look up again to see the snarl of the Kenyan anti-Christ, and automatically, I can see that this is one of his ads!

We all look up in puzzlement - what's going on here?

WHY ARE THE CANDIDATES ADVERTISING IN MASSACHUSETTS?

Any ideas?

In Massachusetts we are experiencing a weird campaign. The Democrats are posting a lot of yard signs for Warren, the fake indian running for Brown's Senate seat. The strange thing is that only a few Democrats have posted signs for Obama. I'm not going out on a limb thinking that Warren is the poster child for the Democrats so they are showing strong support for her. I believe the Democrats don't want to embarrass themselves with their neighbors by posting Obama signs. They don't need to fear being keyed or the like by Republicans. That's a rat trick. I am not that naive to think Democrats will go to the polls and vote for Warren and not Obama. He'll ride Warren's coattails here.

I don’t think they are in the bargain-hunting stage any longer.

They have $ coming in. I think the mo is building and it’s going to break for Mitt if it hasn’t yet.

Folks I live in the greater Boston area & here’s the deal: The Boston market not only hits southern NH it goes all over the state on basic cable. Just about everyone in NH from the Canadian border down gets Boston TV. There’s only one state-wide TV channel in NH: channel 9 out of Manchester.

I was in Cambridge for the weekend and although there were definitely some Kenyan bumper stickers, frankly, I saw more Elizabeth Warren bumper stickers. And there weren't tons of either.

But I didn't see anything for either Gov. Romney or Sen. Brown. Cambridge is 90 percent Democrats. You should know that having been there. Drive through the suburbs. You see plenty of Brown signs and more Romney ones too.

Massachusetts is blue in the cities and trends red the further you are from the cities.

Well Cambridge is actually a separate country than Massachusetts. We Bay Staters refer to it as the “People Republic of Cambridge”. It is like the Haight-Ashbury of the East Coast. They ban Christmas trees on town commons, have restrooms for transvestites and most of the residents understand Pink Floyd lyrics without having to get high first. They wear Birkenstock sandals in the middle of winter and they think Charlie Manson was framed. They are now contemplating banning 12 oz soda cans - just because. Definitely not indicative of the rest of our state!

Dear LoneRangerMassachusetts,

“Cambridge is 90 percent Democrats.”

I realize that. I was commenting on the relative PAUCITY of Obama and (to a lesser degree) Warren signs in a Dammocrap hotbed.

DearSamAdams76,

LOL!

“They wear Birkenstock sandals in the middle of winter...”

I don't know. Not many sandals this weekend. Looked like most folks had switched over to winter clothing even though it was in the 60s for much of Friday and Saturday. I was about the only person, other than the joggers, wearing shorts, or wearing sandals, although even I put on long pants and shoes today.

Boots seem to be popular. Especially on the young ladies. Short skirts and high boots.

Actually many, many small towns in Massachusetts are red. The unfortunate part of Massachusetts are the big cities that harbor welfare and illegals that tend to lean democratic. They just fill the cities with them. 1 city overtakes 20 small towns with one sweeping vote.

I live in a cluster of about 10 towns that lean very far red. Very conservative! I wish our state wasn’t painted completely blue by the whole country. It just isn’t true. It is a rare sight to see a Warren sign or any dem sign on any lawn near where I live. We have cows too.... Just saying!

There are any number of New Hampshire residents who work in Massachusetts and a lot of Mass folks who live in NH but work in Mass.

@2 had it right. Lots of viewers in NH tune into Boston stations. Also, higher GOP turnout won’t mean diddly for Romney winning MA, but could help Senator Brown defeat Fauxcahontas.

Only one NH station—WMUR, and it’s an ABC affiliate. No NBC/CBS/FOX affiliates in NH, and nobody watches Portland television stations outside Maine, if even that.

There might actually not be any NH stations, at least not big 4 network stations. There aren’t any NJ network stations, it is all NYC or Philly. It is really weird to me when we are in Atlantic City and turn on the TV and see the Philly news, but that’s the way it is.

In fact, the MOST ads I’ve been seeing here in Central NJ are for Linda McMahon running in Connecticut.

This past week I was in MD visiting my kid and their airwaves are DROWNING in ads both for and against ballot question 7 regarding a casino. TV, radio, you can’t get away from them. There is also a #6 regarding the definition of marriage, but ad wise it’s a far cry from #7.

As the kid pointed out, she thinks there must be a 1-5 too, but who knows what they are. She just moved there, so she is not up on all the local issues. However, she is aware her gov. is an idiot.

So, political advertising is a little strange. I did see a bunch of Obama ads, but I assume those are aimed at VA as MD is Obama country for sure. I saw a few for Romney too, but as I say the Casino issue is ruling the day down there.

I’m so sorry my kid had to move there, but she did for her job.

The ads go out to NH which is very competitive. MA is NOT a swing state. But TV broadcasts from Boston can be received in southern NH.
