The Decency of Mitt
NRO ^ | 10/25/12 | Deroy Murdock

Why is Mitt Romney rising? Americans who watched the GOP nominee debate President Obama never met the cold, greedy, sexist, racist, carcinogenic tax cheat that Team Obama promised would appear. The calm, steady, and reasonable gentleman who opposed Obama was no Gordon Gekko.

Americans might like Romney even more if they understood his random acts of kindness and significant feats of bravery. As Mara Gay, Dan Hirschhorn, and M. L. Nestel wrote for TheDaily.com: “A man weighed down by the image of a heartless corporate raider who can’t relate to people actually has a history of doing remarkably kind things for those in need.”

The article contains a partial list of what Romney did in the past to help people without any camera around. Unlike 0bama, the more people know Romney on personal level, the more they like him.

While Obama is busy calling Sandra Fluke, this is what the Romney’s are doing.

This lady is from my hometown. The Romney’s are good and decent people. They have God in their lives and charity and empathy in their hearts. The contrast between the candidates could not be more clear.

There is NOTHING in Obama’s background that could even begin to compare to even one of the acts described in the article. Community Organizing? Ha....Organize lazy entitlement-minded cretins to bicker, complain, blame and demand...there simply is no comparison between the two candidates.

How come so many people know about these events if they aren’t promoted

Let me get this straight; Mitt Romney will close down his business and fly an entire office to another city to help find the daughter of a colleague, put a deceased employee's child through college, risk his life to rescue strangers in distress, save a neighbor's belongings from a fire while Obama won't help his own destitute brother...

Nope, don't see a dime's worth of difference between these two.

Oh, dunno...word of mouth maybe; direct witnesses, reports from grateful recepients, family and friends, research by enterprising reporters...help me out here, I can't think of a single reason...

The body language of the two candidates on split camera depicts a truthful comparison. Romney was relaxed and confident, while Obama looked nervous and acted as if someone was giving him instructions through an ear piece. Romney looked like a President, while Obama looked like he was running for Student Council.

“How come so many people know about these events if they aren’t promoted”

What difference does that make? Are you suggesting that Romney performed these good and charitable deeds at the time because they would look good on his political resume? I understand from your post you may not like the guy but do not let your distaste for him color the facts of charitable deeds past. Unless you think Romney’s opponent has a more impressive charitable resume!

Yesterday, I went to pick up my county paper from the convenience store. There was an insert in the paper called Who are the Romneys? "Uh-oh," I thought to myself. Was this a smear sheet sent out by the Obama Campaign? I was surprised to see the 12-page, Parade Magazine size insert contained some of these stories about the kindness of the Romneys to different people. The little magazine was put out by Ending Spending Fund.

The back page of the mag had Why I Changed my Vote testimonials. No matter what someone thought of the front of magazaine, they could see the back and find out why people are changing their votes from 2008. Very good job done by these people.

Thanks for the article, the more I find out about him the better I like him. He is going to be an incredible change compared to the arrogant Kenyan Marxist dictator we have now.

I can tell you that through my husband’s life there are literally thousands of good deeds that he has done, he is just like that, and no one knows about them but the people he has helped. I can bet that if he ran for president a lot of people would be talking and telling about them.

That is how we know about Mitt’s good deeds and they are being promoted because he is running for president.

I imagine a lot of these good deeds were found when reporters were digging for dirt.

Choosing a leader for this moment of our history goes to the very soul of America and to the kind of personal character of that leader as exhibited throughout his life, and then holding that leader to a set of principles essential to liberty.

Hear one of the wise men of America's founding generation:

"He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of his country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man. We must not conclude merely upon a man's haranguing upon liberty, and using the charming sound, that he is fit to be trusted with the liberties of his country. It is not unfrequent to hear men declaim loudly upon liberty, who, if we may judge by the whole tenor of their actions, mean nothing else by it but their own liberty, - to oppress without control or the restraint of laws all who are poorer or weaker than themselves. It is not, I say, unfrequent to see such instances, though at the same time I esteem it a justice due to my country to say that it is not without shining examples of the contrary kind; - examples of men of a distinguished attachment to this same liberty I have been describing; whom no hopes could draw, no terrors could drive, from steadily pursuing, in their sphere, the true interests of their country; whose fidelity has been tried in the nicest and tenderest manner, and has been ever firm and unshaken. The sum of all is, if we would most truly enjoy this gift of Heaven, let us become a virtuous people." - Samuel Adams - Loyalty and Sedition, essay in The Advertiser, 1748

"Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt." Samuel Adams - Essay in the Public Advertiser, 1749

"The liberties of our Country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have receiv'd them as a fair Inheritance from our worthy Ancestors: They purchas'd them for us with toil and danger and expence of treasure and blood; and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle; or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men. Of the latter we are in most danger at present: Let us therefore be aware of it. Let us contemplate our forefathers and posterity; and resolve to maintain the rights bequeath'd to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. - Instead of sitting down satisfied with the efforts we have already made, which is the wish of our enemies, the necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that 'if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration, which should deeply impress our minds, that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." Samuel Adams - Essay in the Boston Gazette, October 14, 1771

"When designs are form'd to raze the very foundation of a free government, whose few who are to erect their grandeur and fortunes upon the general ruin, will employ every art to sooth the devoted people into a state of indolence, inattention and security, which is forever the fore-runner of slavery." Samuel Adams - Article signed "Candidus," in Boston Gazette, December 9, 1771

"He who is void of virtuous Attachments in private Life, is, or very soon will be void of all Regard for his Country. There is seldom an Instance of a Man guilty of betraying his Country, who had not before lost the Feeling of moral Obligations in his private Connections." - Letter to James Warren, November 4, 1775

"Since private and publick Vices, are in Reality, though not always apparently, so nearly connected, of how much Importance, how necessary is it, that the utmost Pains be taken by the Publick, to have the Principles of Virtue early inculcated on the Minds even of children, and the moral Sense kept alive, and that the wise institutions of our Ancestors for these great Purposes be encouraged by the Government. For no people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffusd and Virtue is preservd. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauchd in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders." Samuel Adams - Letter to James Warren, November 4, 1775

"Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust be men of unexceptionable characters. The public cannot be too curious concerning the character of public men." Samuel Adams - Letter to James Warren, November 4, 1775

“Bammy’s daddy was a serial polygamist - so that is is HALF-brother.

He lets his aunt sit on welfare rather than offer any of his millions to help.

I guess “family” means something different to the Bamster.

risk his life to rescue strangers in distress, save a neighbor's belongings from a fire

Romney never did that, and no one ever said that he is not dedicated to Mormonism and the works necessary to become a God, that is why he helps his fellow Mormons to such a degree.
