Whoever gave the order to not engage made a choice and decided that the lives of four Americans were not worth as much as something else.

I wonder what it was.

That is the real question.

Something was going on that the ambassador was involved in that was so top secret and controversial that obumbler was determined that it never be discovered.

His mistake was, as is the case with pathological liars, believing that no one would doubt him.

The result of insane ego.

I never did understand how anyone could have voted for obumbler, but it would seem to me that even the most uninformed voter in the world would not vote for him after today's news.

Devastating.

It could have been more lives lost- some people made it, IIRC.

There may very well have been good reason to not put more US lives and expensive assets at risk in what the military probably rightly suspected to be a Russian/Syrian/Iranian trap. Note that the fighting went on for many hours when it could have been over quickly. Was that designed to sucker the US into a much bloodier ambush? If it was a state-supported and well-orchestrated attack, then Pentagon planners would have had to anticipate anti-aircraft threats to a C-130 or a Blackhawk Down situation for would-be rescuers. Here’s a pretty good take on how that would have evolved, linking the attack to Russian exposure of the US effort to move arms (including chemical weapons) from Libya to Syria via Turkey: http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/5058
