(CBS/AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A woman who berated security officers at a Nashville airport for trying to pat down her teenage daughter, and then refused to submit to the procedure herself, has been found guilty of disorderly conduct.
It took jurors about four hours Tuesday to convict 42-year-old Andrea Abbott for the July confrontation. She was sentenced to a year's probation.
Abbott had faced up to 30 days in jail and a $50 fine, according to CBS affiliate WTVF.
Transportation Security Administration Officer Karen King testified that before the pat-down, Abbott yelled in her face that she didn't want anyone "touching her daughter's crotch."
Abbott eventually allowed her then-14-year-old daughter to undergo the pat-down, but then she refused one for herself and was arrested.
Abbott took the stand during the trial and acknowledged that she did say a few curse words but that she had a normal conversation about why she believed the pat-down was inappropriate.
All except your jewels, of course.
No need for scare quotes; he's a real Republican all right. Why some people persist in believing that Republican = conservative is a mystery to me.
Indeed, that is the most disturbing thing about this entire ordeal.
The Progressive public school system is performing as designed -- to have citizens be strongly inclined to be obedient to the State.
It's going to be a long road back from the growing tyranny of our local, state and national governments.
>>>Uh...a Republican began this stuff.>>>
Yes, onedoug, Bush was president at the time the law was passed. But he fought and fought against it being unionized. Congress passed it as a union.
Bs. Bush sucked. You don’t have to be a liberal to believe that. I’m a hard-core conservative, but I affirm bush sucked, McCain sucked and bush senior sucked. Being a republican don’t mean sh*t, if it means you have to like idiots.
Why did he suck? He was a big government guy. Spent like a drunken sailor, weakened the constitution substantially with the Patriot act.
Abbott yelled in her face that she didn’t want anyone “touching her daughter’s crotch.”
Setting all the other issues aside, I’m sure the daughter will be scarred much longer by her mother yelling that out in a crowded airport than she would be by the standard pat down.
One problem with the Israeli protocols: they require intelligent staff in order to apply them. Thus they are incompatible with affirmative action.
“Why dont we have huge metal rooms leading into the airport. Everyone has to walk thru single file. If you are carrying anything that would cause a danger to your fellow passengers, you set off a warning that lasts for ten seconds.”
Well, the TSA’s excuse is that the metal detectors just can’t catch everything. What they don’t want to tell you is the pat down, and the body scanners can’t catch everything either, and the terrorists know it. So, basically it seems to me it is all a dog & pony show to make the fliers think that they are safer.
Based only on what I have read, it would have difficult to find a mother guilty for getting a little riled up over a pervert groping her and her teenage daughter. I assume there are some decent TSA workers, but I don't hold them in high regard as a group, based on numerous interactions with them.
The biggest problem with the Republican party is that they don't do what they say they will... firearms/2nd Amd: have you ever heard proposal to repeal the GCA and/or NFA? respect for the bill of rights: the War on Drugs has eroded it to the point of "mere words" but when was the last big/mainstream republican who questioned the WOD? Government Accountability: Fast & Furious shows this to be a lie, do you think that anything will be done from this case of State Sponsored Terrorism? abortion: they add "no exceptions" to the party's plank, only to nominate Romney who does support those very exceptions.
Why did he suck? He was a big government guy. Spent like a drunken sailor, weakened the constitution substantially with the Patriot act.
Should Romney win I expect much the same: I have never heard Romney say something wasn't the government's business.
I'm wondering if the Jury was told something along the lines of "you have to convict her of breaking the law" ... of course, given that the courts don't have to inform the jury of their power of nullification it's almost the same thing.
Bush’s solution? Grow government. Homeland Security. How had we ever lasted without it?
