I was on a conference call yesterday regarding intelligence gathered from a highly placed source that liberal Obama surrogates are planning to target Evangelical mega-church parking lots with bigoted anti-Mormon flyers the final weekend before the election in key battleground states like Ohio, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Mega-church pastors are being notified to have parking lot attendants be on the lookout for such a lit drop. But please forward this post to all pastors of both Protestant and Catholic churches, particularly in battleground states. It may surprise you to learn that most of anti-Mormonism is on the LEFT, not the Right. From The American Spectator, April 18: And a Pew poll found that 31% of Democrats and 23% Republicans said they would be less likely to support a candidate if he were Mormon. The poll also found that the more liberal the respondent, the more anti-Mormon they were. Forty-one percent of liberal Democrats said they would be less likely to support a Mormon candidate. From Fox News, June 15: The GOPs all-important social conservatives may be getting more comfortable with Mitt Romneys Mormon faith but liberals are increasingly wary about the candidates religion in the run-up to November, according to a new study. The study found anti-Mormon attitudes have increased since Romneys 2008 presidential bid and are highest among liberal and non-religious voters
. The study found attitudes about Mormonism among Evangelicals has largely remained unchanged since 2007 when 37% said they were less likely to vote for a Mormon candidate for president, compared with 33% this year. However, that sentiment among non-religious voters increased from 21% to 41% over roughly the same period. Among liberal voters, 43% said they were less likely to vote for a Mormon presidential candidate in 2012, compared with 28% in 2007.
We have our own rabid anti-Mormon folks right here. No need for a document drop.
Disagreeing is one thing, and certainly legitimate. Slander is another, and certainly illegitimate.
I am voting Against Obama, not for a mormon.
No disrespect but much of legitimate disagrement about the church founded by Joseph Smith is called “anti” or “slander” to end the discussion. Using the term “anti” by many defenders of Smiths church is much like a Lib using the word “Racist”
That all being said, I will vote for the R candidate as he is in almost all regards a superior political candidate
A vote for Bambi is a vote for Mohammed, more mosques and sharia.
I am LDS and I am not voting for a Mormon, as such (i.e. Harry Reid would never get my vote). I am voting for sanity and against Obama.
Resorting to the Mormon angle is a very real sign of desperation.
This will open the doors to Reverend Wright, Calypso Louie, and Obama mentioning his Muslim faith.
Try it? They will be very sorry.
I have Mormon neighbors that are voting for Obama. They are big, big libs. I was shocked.
Look, I don't agree with various groups on their religious beliefs but I'm more inclined to support people who are on the right. There's something about liberals that's just not right... It's like the difference between good and bad. Even within my own faith, I see the difference. It always amazes me when I can sit in church with a lib and we come out of service hearing two different sermons. How can anyone who goes to church believe in gay marriage, abortion, free contraception...etc?
Is that a joke or real? He is soooo creepy! Hollywood needs to hire him for one of their scream-type movies.
Have them arrested for trespassing.
“with bigoted anti-Mormon flyers”
If the flyers contain accurate info about mormonism’s many heresies, no problem. Facts are facts. That is part of the baggage Mitt Romney brings to this election.
For evangelicals - many of whom no longer have a foundation of accurate Biblical understanding - this election is about two lousy choices, each for a very different reasons.
Many evangelicals will make a decision in their conscience, apart from their pocketbook.
Maybe your neighbors got to their personal limit on what it means to be a Liberal these days. That would be an interesting question, if you could ask it in the right way, i.e., so you would get an answer rather than a “harrumph”.
In answer to your last question - I have no clue whatsoever. Sometimes the best thing I can do is take a deep breath and pray for guidance.
So, so sorry. Mis-read your post. I thought you posted that they were NOT going to vote for Obama.
So, I will re-phrase to say that everyone has a choice, but we all have to live by the ones we make. We can choose different paths, but we cannot separately choose the final destination, having chosen the path.
As Greek Orthodox, you probably know that they label Mormonism as a polytheistic, non Christian cult, as do all Protestant denominations and the Roman Catholic church.
My husband got to talking with the guy and he was huge into keynesian economics. He also stated we should not bring this subject up in front of his wife because she gets heated.
It's like damn.... Why can't I ever find a conservative neighborhood to live in........
I see slander in your post, but am not aware of slander against Mormonism here at FR.
They have already thought through the trade off here with supporting Romney.
Lefties think evangelicals are fools. Lefties will be surprised.
Mormons are not Christians, and Mormonism was founded to replace Christianity (and for sex and money). You might also be surprised that Mitt Romney expects to become a God, as our God is to us.
Mitt, and Mormons believe that God was just a man like them, and that there are many Gods, countless Gods, and that they themselves become Gods of planets and worshipers, just as our God is to this planet.
