DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Mitt Romney’s first debate bounce has evaporated and President Obama once again has taken a slim lead in The Washington Times/Zogby Poll released Sunday night — though the survey showed Mr. Romney’s backers are far more energized about him than the president’s backers are about their candidate. Mr. Obama leads 49.7 percent to 47.3 percent over Mr. Romney, the Republican nominee, with 3 percent undecided.

The thing that disturbs me is that even with all that in mind, Rasmussen is calling this a dead even race.

Rasmussen is not using his own party affiliation breakdown model, where Rpublicans are now in the majority. He's using a hard D+3 for the national poll. (That's according to a freeper - I forget who - who has a Ras full subscription.) Maybe someone can confirm that.

As for Ras's state level polls - I don't know what model(s), if any, he's using. Anyone know?

I find it hard to believe Rasmussen will go down to the wire using D+3, seems to me that guarantees he'll be at least 5 points off.

Here's why I pay little attention to polls - even though some have proven to be accurate..

People have to be home to participate in a poll. They have to be home, answer the phone, and participate. So that right there eliminates anyone who works a night job or stays at work late. Those people are not part of the study. And what about the people who never answer the phone?

But hold on, you say. These pollsters wait until they have a fair or even sampling rate, they use weighted averages and blah-blah. Still, the people I'm referring to are not counted. The question is how many are there? And how are they likely to vote?

The spin on this is by the same folks who told us that the Tea Party was merely astroturf... Even after we wiped them out in the 2010 elections.
