Cutter: No, Benghazi was not a foreign-policy failure

Stephanie Cutter insisted this morning on NBC that the attack on our consulate in Benghazi was not a “foreign policy failure,” and that the only reason people might think it was is because Republicans are “politicizing” a tragedy that could have happened anywhere in the world American diplomats serve. That’s true only if one considers the Benghazi attack completely without the context of the last two years of Barack Obama’s foreign policy, in general dealing with the so-called “Arab Spring” and specifically in Libya. In truth, we created the conditions for this attack, and then ignored the risks:

In another couple of months al-Qaeda will be running the country. But at least it's not a foreign policy failure.

Hussein’s entire handling of the Arab Spring was a foreign policy failure.

What she must have been trying to say was that it was not indicative of a systemic foreign policy failure. Of course, the murder of a single Ambassador is a foreign policy failure, if only a one-off.

At the very least, this was a single failure to properly assess and address the security of the Consulate in Benghazi.

At the most (and this is my opinion) it was a complete failure to understand what is going on in the "Muslim world."

BTW: I think that would be a great line for the debate tonight. “I wonder just how many Americans have to be assassinated for this White House to consider it a failure?”

Follow up question to Cutter:

“So, you consider Benghazi a foreign policy success?”

“Or, are you trying to tell us that what happened in Benghzi had nothing to do with Obama’s foreign policy?”

She is saying it's a Lay's Potato Chip foreign policy.

Dear Al Qaeda:

Kill all the ambassadors you want. We'll send more.

If I may revise this a bit: “I wonder just how many Americans have to be assassinated as a result of blatant disregard for their security for this White House to consider it a failure?”

"In truth, we created the conditions for this attack, and then ignored the risks:"

So, in your mind Ms. Cutter, does your statement more approximate the definition of policy success or policy failure?

So if it wasn’t a failure, Benghazi must have been a success.

In which case, suspicions we had about the Zero Administration from the beginning have been confirmed.

says a lot that they consider benghazi a success (or at least not a failure).

Romney could create a great ad with Obama’s “successes”: recovery, obamacare, benghazi, bin laden. End saying “congratulations on bin laden but we set the success bar higher on almost every other issue.”

So, by implication, it was a success.

I am thankful to God that I am not the man who brought this disgusting parasite of a woman into this world.
