(Council Bluffs) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan campaigned in western Iowa Sunday, mentioning Mondays final debate between his running mate Mitt Romney and President Obama.
You take a look at what the presidents doing and what the presidents saying, at what hes done. Hes not offering anything new or any second-term agenda, Ryan said. Weve had three debates. Weve had lots of campaigning and all were getting is a smaller and smaller campaign,.
Ryan told a crowd in Council Bluffs this is no ordinary election. Iowas no ordinary state on the Electoral College map either, as both campaigns consider this a toss-up state that could tip the balance on Election Night.
Iowa, youre so used to it. Youre used to being the eye of the storm. Youre using to seeing this, Ryan says. You have a responsibility and an opportunity and an obligation to help us get this country back on the right track, so that we look back at this moment when we reclaimed our freedoms.
Shortly after noon on Sunday, Ryan spoke to about 1200 people in the parking lot of a Bass Pro Shop in Council Bluffs near the arena where Vice President Joe Biden rallied with about 500 local Democrats on October 4. Ryan opened by giving a first quarter score from the Green Bay Packers game. He later cited Nebraskas 29-28 victory over Northwestern on Saturday as an example of Midwestern perseverance.

I think IA’s in the bag.
Now there’s WI and PA. Let’s put Obama on the ropes!
It’ll only get easier after tonight.
My wife and I were there. The atmosphere was electric.
I live in Iowa and very seriously doubt if it’s in the bag. There are a huge number of union, welfare and university leftists here. Most live in Davenport, Dubuque, Iowa City (just as left as Madison) and Des Moines. The number is much larger than people outside the state appreciate. One can only hope that their enthusiasm is low, as I do.
The Romney campaign wouldn’t be spending time there if they thought IA couldn’t be won.
They obviously think attention should be paid there and to NV, CO and OH. Without that, its hard to imagine a clear path to 270 electoral votes.
Now the GOP can afford to shift resources to key battlegrounds and secure them. There are two weeks to get the job done.
I used to work in Wisconsin with five guys from Iowa. They were all (1) great guys and (2) big-time Democrats. My conclusion was that northeast Iowa, where my co-workers were from, was heavily Democrat country.
