Group shot of all the politicians in attendance, except for one: the empty chair had been occupied by Rob Gleason, the PA GOP Chairman, who was speaking at the time this was taken. He was the only one who didn't mingle with the crowd beforehand. If anyone knows the back story about Gleason, you'd understand why the empty chair is a fitting metaphor for him.

Ryan's entrance was very dramatic. First, the SS people came in to check out the crowd (some of them were very stern, looking as if they were about to pounce at any sudden move from the crowd).

We were facing the rear doors of the hangar when they slowly started to open, revealing the campaign plane:



I didn't have the zoom enabled, so that plane was closer to me than you might imagine.

So, anyway, he finally ran down the steps of the plane and took the stage. They had placed notes before him, but he barely glanced at them while giving his speech. And there was definitely no teleprompter!

The stern SS guy never moved in front of me, so I couldn't get a clear "shot" (I mean that photographically!) of Ryan.



At the end, though, Ryan did look me squarely in the eye, shake my hand, and thank me for coming as he moved down the line.

Wow you were really close! That same ss guy was at the Carnegie rally. His eyes were constantly scanning the crowd. Did you have to wait long?

Oh wow! Great experience (and report & photos!). Well done. I’m trying to figure out how to get to see Boltan tomorrow...daughter not sure how early she can leave work...I babysit M-T-W (work the “real” job rest of week)...and was hoping to get to see him tomorrow @CMU.

Anyone else still listening to Tom the idiot caller Obot, all pro ObamaCare...Rose is kicking his butt. Is that covered under BarkyCare?

I got there shortly after 8AM and Ryan didn’t arrive until a little after 11, so about 3 hours, standing. But it went fast as there were plenty of people to talk to.
