On Oct. 3, I raised a question here that reflected President Obamas strong momentum and Mitt Romneys apparent readiness to accept defeat.
Are you a good loser, Mitt? I wrote.
I have my answer. Ive gotten it so many times in the last 17 days that I am now convinced of it.
The answer is no, Mitt Romney is not a good loser. He is instead determined to be the next president of the United States.
And I am starting to believe he will be.
The New & Improved Mitt took the stage in the first debate, which came on the day of my question. The timing is important, because the day marked what, in hindsight, was the low point of the Romney campaign.
He was drifting, not fighting, and seemed oddly content with a race sliding away, as though the nomination was victory enough. Obama, on the other hand, gave every indication he wanted to keep the job, no matter what it took. His re-election had a growing sense of inevitability.
Then came that first debate, where Romneys brilliant performance and Obamas snooze flipped the script. But it is now clear Romneys sudden zest wasnt a one-off. He has continued to gain support after the second debate, an illustration of the power and depth of the change to his approach.
Some polls show him leading nationally by as much as 6 points, and the Electoral College map is moving in his direction. Romney still needs more states in his column and there is plenty of time for the race to swing back to Obama.
But there is no denying that we have witnessed a man rising beyond what seemed his ability to meet a challenge. If Romney were an athlete, we would be asking whether hes on steroids.

If memory serves,Goodwin voted Obama and was very quickly disillusioned. I am starting to think this is gonna be 1980 again.
"Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser."
I think another question would be how badly the liberal press in this country have portrayed Mr. Romney.
“He is instead determined to be the next president of the United States.”
*******
If Romney beat’s the Left’s messiah and de-rails their radical agenda, they will harbor a resentment against him that will far exceed their insane hatred of GWB. Mitt and his family will need our support.
Unlike Bush, he’s a much better communicator.
I think the left is in panic over Romney and scared to death.
To them and their crack pot ways of thinking:
1. He is not “dumb” like W was.
2. There is no palin to ridicule this time.
3. He is not old and crotchety like Dole and McCain
4. He looks and sounds like a POTUS in command
5. He stared down Obama on national stage and shows obama no respect whatsoever.
6. Romney has now got the 3 legs of the Conserative Stool under him - So Cons, Defense Cons, and Fiscal Cons behind him and READY TO GO!
LET’S ROLL!
What nonsense. There was nothing new and nothing improved with Romney.Debate.01. He was always that good, it was just that nobody took the time to notice - at least among the media-types.
If Romney really wanted to win, he’d take the gloves off by playing Obama’s 2007 Katrina video 24 hours a day, and challenge Obama about it in the debates:
“In a video obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama tells an audience of black ministers, including the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, that the U.S. government shortchanged Hurricane Katrina victims because of racism.”
U forgot the “projectile vomit alert.”
Wonder what kind of loser Obama will be!
I expect a full-on temper tantrum and RIOTING, DEATH AND DESTRUCTION.
Romney is doing exactly what he should.
My dad is a good bell weather. He did not like W or McCain, but he voted for them.
However - he is thrilled w Romney so far.
Unlike Bush, hes a much better communicator.
******
And I don’t think Romney will allow himself to become a punching bag like Bush did. Bush never pushed back against the media jackals. Romney has shown in many debats that he can communicate and stand up for himself.
Romney has really surprised me how well he turned everything up the last month or so - this must all have been intended this way.
Lay low and then bbbbbbbbbbbooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The left are in sheer panic and despair lately.
Romney is not new and improved...he is the same as he was 5 years ago. People like the writer have simply opened their eyes and have stopped listening to the Obama spin. Don’t forget Reagan was the “dumbest” president ever ... Unless you blocked out the left noise and opened your eyes to facts and reality, rather than making decisions on hearsay.
7. The “Obama Years” suck
I am beginning to think that the Colorado University study based on state-by-state economic factors is right. Romney will win because the country is fed up with the bleeding.
All the polls based on “registered voters” were flap-doodle.
What we are getting now is “likely voters” and even these may underestimate the enthusiasm factor.
In the first debate he looked very presidential, very smart and likable. He’s a winner.
Think about this.
I live in NYC and am in Westchester County - liberal looney tune land.
There is nothing for Obama - no yard signs, no bumper stickers - NOTHING.
In fact - there were more McCain Palin yard signs and bumper stickers in 2008 than there are obama 2012 signage now.
THINK ABOUT THAT!
I got the impression the last two weeks that Mitt is REALLY smart. He equates himself well. Mitt is a winner!
