SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) George S. McGovern, a proud liberal who argued fervently against the Vietnam War as a senator from South Dakota and suffered one of the most crushing defeats in presidential election history against Richard Nixon in 1972, died before dawn Sunday. He was 90.
A spokesman for McGovern's family, Steve Hildebrand, told The Associated Press by telephone that McGovern died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday at a hospice in Sioux Falls, surrounded by family and lifelong friends.

Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it.
I told you last week that he was dead. He was brain-dead from the 1940’s onward.
He was supposedly a nice guy and I have not reason to doubt it, but Benedict Arnold was also a patriot and nice guy, once.
The same for Alger Hiss.
“The evil that men do lives after them; the good lies interred with their bones”.
To #19. “You meant well”.
“The road to Hell is paved with good intentions” and the tortured, broken and murdered bodies of tens of millions of decent, innocent people, including those in So.Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. McGovern helped to cause the genocide there.
Hell ain’t good enough for him and his band of betrayers.
Ironically, though he was quite far left in 1972, I think he was not at heart a Marxist as are most high-profile Democrats on the left today.
I’m almost sure, in fact, that he came out AGAINST “card-check” when Obama was thinking about trying to ram that through. That he did that shows me that he was more sane than 70 to 80% of the present Dem U.S. Senators.
RIP
Hank
In 1975, the Party of LoveCommunismForever voted to cut off all aid to Vietnam, McGovern’s buddies won and the people of Vietnam lost.
McGovern may have lost the presidential election in 1972, but he was a member of the party that won the war for the North Vietnamese commies in 1975.
