The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is proud to announce the launch of a breakthrough database that provides a dramatically improved measure of the federal regulatory burden.
RegData is the first database to count the actual number of restrictions in the Code of Federal Regulations, as opposed to the former method of simply counting total pages. The interactive tool enables a far more focused view of the regulatory burden by measuring the growth of regulation by industry. While previous methods provided an idea of the growth of overall regulation, they told nothing about how those regulations affected specific sectors in the economy.
Here are the results in looking at the growth in the total number of regulations since 1997:

That is indeed death by 1 million paper cuts.
Rate of growth in the graph is mind boggling.
Just think...each new regulation is one more chip off the block of freedom.
It’s clear to say that looking at the graph and rate of growth, Obama or not, we are headed to political slavery no matter what we do.
“Making law” is a spectator sport in government circles. It’s how young upstarts fresh out of law school put feathers in their caps. No regard as to who it affects or what the unforseen circumstances may be. Just something to pad the ol’ resume. The lawyers and their co-conspirators in government have this country by the short and curlies.
Ya know, a Tea Party Congress just might be able to do something about that....
Making law??
God Creates.
Government frustrates and destroys.
Only way out of this mess is to DownSize DC.
Close entire Rogue Departments. Move any worthwhile functions back to states.
How?
Now How, but When. Sooner we begin, quicker the results will be apparent.
The unnecessary and counter productive MUST GO.
Beginning with Obozo.
OUTSTANDING post! Thanks. HOORAY George Mason University!

Not only have the regulations become easier for government to multiply but the bar for imposing felony status has been gradually lowered. For example, it is a felony for a tire monkey to not properly re-install the tire pressure transmitter in the wheel when changing a tire. It is a felony, at least measured by the maximum published penalty, to disconnect your air bag without obtaining official permission from the DOT. And of course, as with any interaction with a federal employee, it is a violation of 18 USC 1001 to lie in any statement. (but strangely, it is not a felony for a federal employee to lie to a citizen)

Thanks.
I did not know about those 2 over the top regulations.
But unfortunately ignorance of the law is not a defence.

How can ignorance of each of 1 million regulatory requirements be a condition of violation of one of them? This is blatant violation of due process through making it impossible for a person know when they are in compliance with every law and regulation having the weight of law. As such it is tyranny and runaway government plain and simple.
