his feat could someday help save the lives of pilots and space travelers in a disaster. How do they get past the problem of going 17,000 mph when they hit the atmosphere? Gonna get a bit toasty in that suit.

He wasn’t falling from an exoatomospheric height, so a suit of that design should work if you have to bail out that high.
This is kind of important since the next step in transport looks to be suborbital craft flying at about that same height - as soon as the greenies shut up and go away.

How do they get past the problem of going 17,000 mph when they hit the atmosphere?During liftoff, during the initial boost phase, way before reaching orbital velocity, for one. Then again, I have seen ideas for bringing a space-suited human back to earth from LEO, some wild, some cool.
