These devices aren't even supposed to explode. They used to work against armor by penetrating through gaps and burning there. Gasoline can be used, but there are more advanced mixtures; the Soviet design included the ignition source inside the bottle (H₂SO₄ + KClO₃ + sugar,) this made the bottle into a self-contained, primed weapon. Modern tanks are minimally vulnerable to burning liquids; but of course any flammable materials or people will burn.
