During the movie I began to surmise that the movie was made (an Affleck-Clooney joint production) in order to try to revise history...it tried to show how Carter wasn't a failure and had his own successful hostage operation.
I had to laugh when I heard Jimmah narrating at the end of the movie and I realized my theory was correct.
What really made me laugh out loud was when Carter proclaimed that it was a “peaceful” rescue. What a colossal jerk.
It may have been “peaceful” for him tucked away in the WH in his little blue sweater, but it sure wasn’t peaceful for the hostages or for the Canadian ambassador and his wife and their maid, all of whom had to flee through howling mobs and barely escaped with their lives. Carter and Obama both are smug, self-obsessed jerks.
The good thing about the movie, however, was that it was pretty honest about how crazy and vicious the “Islamic Revolution” really was in practice, although of course the shallow, stupid intro made it sound like it was justifiable and all our fault. An early version of the “Arab Spring,” I guess...
