DENVER — Colorado voters could be filling out their ballots as early as Tuesday, with 1.95 million ballots now in the mail and on their way to voters across this critical swing state.

Of the 3.6 million registered voters in the state, more than half of them are receiving mail ballots this week.

According to Secretary of State Scott Gessler’s office, 1,950,185 ballots are being mailed out Monday.

Of those, 598,503 are being sent to unaffiliated voters; 673,676 are being sent to registered Republicans; and 654,129 are being mailed to registered Democrats.

I don’t know what that means - a 60,000 vote differential via absentee ballots, early voters or on election day or in total?

It means that we lost in 08 by 265,000 total. Given the changes in absentee numbers, etc., we don't need to overcome 265,000 votes. Now, Rs think that if we get any combination of new voters/Dems flipped to vote for Romney/indies/ or more R turnout that totals 60k votes and hold everything else constant, we win.

This isn't tough at all. I think we'll see two counties, Warren and Hamilton, give us at least 30k gain over 08; and if Romney wins just 51% of Is, he wins the state by 3-4 points.

“Has Colorado (or any other state) mailed out any military ballots yet ?”

I’m sorry, but I don’t know anything about military ballots.

Repubs are killing it in NC, almost 2 for every 1 Dem, but again I must point out that in mail-in absentees in 2008 we saw the exact same thing, and that Dems overcame it in-person. So while I hope you’re right about OH, I still don’t feel safe in drawing similar conclusions about NC from the numbers so far.

Yeah, each state is different. In OH Repubs own election day itself.

Ollie North said regardless of what’s reported in the news, the ballots are getting to the military in time to be included.

That is very good news.

I got mine as well. Will turn it in in person. I will leave nothing to chance. My daughter who goes to college in Nebraska is home on fall break-she will turn hers in before leaving this weekend. We need every vote this time

Ballot came today. Will savor it tomorrow. Courthouse is about 6 blocks away.

Sweet.

I did the same thing.

Voted straight R, and NO on everything else, including all tax increases - and NO on retention of the judges.

These are not absentees. In Colorado you have the option of being a permanent mail in voter. Some of our elections are done only by mail In ballots and you have the option of doing mail in for every election. A great many Colorado voters have chosen this option, and the ballots were mailed on 10/15. They can be mailed back or dropped in person at specified sites

Got mine today! I’d vote already, but I gotta check out the judges and the rest of the local initiatives.

"Could those 23,877 be registered members of minor parties? Just a thought.

Hmmm, yeah, the Tancredo 3rd party deal, in which Tancredo, running for Governor on a 3rd Party ticket(at the last minute after the GOP candidate turned out to be a total flake) and took 2nd place....hmmm.

Me too. I really don’t want to trust my ballot with USPS. I hand deliver mine, thank you!

You might find a starting point at the Secretary of State web site: https://www.sos.state.co.us/voter-classic/secuRegVoterIntro.do

Yes, please hand-deliver.

Some nast Post Office worker working in GOP-dominant precincts can simply ditch a couple bags worth, knowing that MOST of the “lost” ballots will be GOP ballots.

“but I gotta check out the judges and the rest of the local initiatives.”

As a rule of thumb, if you vote NO on all taxes and initiatives you’ll be doing the right thing. That said, I did read the blue book and it did confirm that NO votes were the only way to go in my neck of the woods.

I didn’t vote at all on the judges because I had no good way to easily judge them and was too lazy to research. I suppose I may have passed up a good opportunity to protest against some lib judges, but to my knowledge there haven’t been any horribly outrageous rulings lately, so I wasn’t terribly motivated. I do admire your conviction to make the effort to figure out what to do about the judges.

That's odd.

What does he have to say about THIS ?

Military ballots still AWOL as states fail to mail

Jurisdictions in Vermont, Michigan, Mississippi and Wisconsin have failed to mail absentee ballots to military members by the Sept. 22, 2012, deadline established by the [Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment] Act.

This is quite upsetting as obviously Ollie believes otherwise. Following the link to the Army Magazine, a responder had this to say:

"This year, however, the military can vote by the Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot if they don't get their ballots sent out on time--and this year the states must accept them. Many states allow return of ballots via e-mail and fax. Let your friends in the military know how to vote this way. Go to www.getoutthevet.com and press the vote tab for instructions and links to websites where this can be done. CAPT Ben Brink, USN (Ret. K

It is essential we spread the word asap.
