I’m so glad I didn’t watch the train-wreck, er. . . debate, and watched (part of) the new History Channel series “The Men Who Built America” instead.
While not everything that those industry titans did was laudable, it was the best case I’ve seen in a long time for free enterprise and entrepreneurship that had virtually nothing to do with the federal government.
Those guys really did “build that.” If an Obama-like government had been in charge in the 19th century, we’d still be in the dark economically.
You should read: “Meet you in Hell: Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick”. Very interesting read. I came way understanding what corrupt, unnecessary, and violent organizations unions are, even though the goal of the author was to laud the unionization of the steel and coke industry.
