King's crisis
RELIGION | After a meteoric rise in the evangelical world, The Kings College president Dinesh DSouza now faces his boards likely questions about his relationship to a woman not his wife
About 2,000 people gathered on Sept. 28 at First Baptist North in Spartanburg, S.C., to hear high-profile Christians speak on defending the faith and applying a Christian worldview to their lives. Among the speakers: Eric Metaxas, Josh McDowell, andkeynote speaker for the eveningbest-selling author, filmmaker, and Christian college president Dinesh DSouza.
DSouzas speech earned him a standing ovation and a long line at the book-signing table immediately afterward. Although DSouza has been married for 20 years to his wife, Dixie, in South Carolina he was with a young woman, Denise Odie Joseph II, and introduced her to at least three people as his fiancée.
Finally, near 11 p.m., event organizer Tony Beam escorted DSouza and Joseph to the nearby Comfort Suites. Beam noted that they checked in together and were apparently sharing a room for the night in the sold-out hotel. The next morning, around 6 a.m., Beam arrived back at the hotel and called up to DSouzas room. Well be down in 10 minutes, DSouza told Beam. DSouza and Joseph came down together, and Beam took them to the airport.
The next day another conference organizer, Alex McFarland, distressed by DSouzas behavior, confronted him in a telephone conversation. DSouza admitted he shared a room with his fiancée but said nothing happened. When I called DSouza, he confirmed that he was indeed engaged to Joseph, but did not explain how he could be engaged to one woman while still married to another. When asked when he had filed for divorce from his wife, Dixie, DSouza answered, Recently.
According to San Diego County (Calif.) Superior Court records, DSouza filed for divorce only on Oct. 4, the day I spoke with him. Under California law, that starts the clock on a six-month waiting period for divorce. DSouza on Oct. 4 told me his marriage was over, said he is sure Denise is the one for me, and said he had done nothing wrong.
The episode is a strange twist in DSouzas otherwise meteoric rise in the evangelical world. He developed a reputation among evangelicals with a string of best-sellers, including The Roots of Obamas Rage, which spawned a movie, Obama: 2016, which has now grossed more than $30 million. He broke into the Christian conference and megachurch market in 2007 with the release of a book that year, Whats So Great About Christianity.
DSouza now receives speaking fees sometimes in excess of $10,000 from Christian groups, putting him in the top tier of Christian speakers. In 2010 he became president of The Kings College, New York City, which is supported by Campus Crusade for Christ, now called Cru. At that time he moved from California to New York, with his wife staying in California.
DSouza said Kings board chairman Andy Mills has known about his marital trouble for at least two years. Mills confirmed that through a spokesman, Mark DeMoss, who added that Mills was hopeful about restoration and both he [DSouza] and Andy were praying to that end. DeMoss said The Kings College board met by conference call to begin looking into the situation. DSouza participated in a portion of that call, DeMoss said. Following that meeting, on Oct. 15, DSouza wrote in a text message to me: I have decided to suspend the engagement.
The Kings board plans further discussion at a regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 17 and 18, DeMoss said.

I agree. We all say, "Oh, I'm fine, thanks ... you?" when it's not true. And then everyone thinks they're the only one having a hard time.
Congrats on your 12th! We didn't have a computer that far back ;-).
The ignorance here is people who aren’t smart enough to figure out on their own what this is about. Google “2016”.
And here come the Freepers immediately turning South on a conservative.
It seemed pretty clear he has filed for divorce and his marriage was on the rocks for 2 years. Is planning to marry this woman. Doesn’t appear the story exactly fits the headline, implying he is just out on the town.
“the other woman” at the end of my post is a typo, not a sign-off!
It’s the seriousness of the charge that matters. S/
Maybe his wife dumped him. Possible?
How do guys like this get away with it? He's really homely.
Agreed, and a Nerd, too. Like Rajesh on "Big Bang Theory."
But he's an authority figure, so ...

While none of this changes the content of the movie 2016, it certainly speaks of a change in the content of Mr. DSouza.
Americans are totally spiritually and socially retarded these days. He obviously felt no shame in adultery as he was introducing his upgrade when he was not even divorced from his wife.
Like most Christian “heros”... Wonder how ole Dixie is doing given she was dumped in her final years by her “husband.” Doesn’t matter. All that matters is the immediate gratification of Dinesh’s sexual excitment in his old age the the current wave of his successful film.
We know the outcome of this story. Ole Dinesh will find himself wrinkely, empty, shook down and alone in his old age after the thrill (the money from his film) is gone. I hope Dixie, her children and grandchildren make out alright.
I am tired of this story line amoung “Christian heros.” Shallow, materialistic pervert intellectuals are killing the spirit of Christ in our country. Making asses of everyone for their immediate gratification like trash.
The only reason Dinesh is in front of Christian people is because his liberal pals from the University don’t approve of his illiberal politics. Otherwise, he’d have nothing to do with Christians.
Oh? So it's acceptable if he's a rascal who is living in sin because at least he's "our" rascal?
God will judge this man as He will all of us. However, when someone who claims to be a Christian attempts to make light of immoral behavior (after all, he agrees with me...), they are making a mockery of God's standards.
I guess he has a very large following that I’m unaware of. I remember him as a very young man and he was pretty impressive. I’ve sort of fallen out of love with all that conservative generation: Laura Ingraham, Peggy Noonan, Ann Coulter. They seem a little corrupted by success. But time moves on and right now I’m more concerned about getting Obama out of office. D’Souza’s marital problems seem like small change to me.
Nice talking to you!
Certainly. Few if any of us here know all the circumstances. However, it was not prudent for him to share a hotel room with a woman who was not his wife. For someone in his position to act in such a cavalier manner is frankly a bit shocking.
I firmly believe that staying married is a heck of a lot harder than splitting up.
I married that first time because I wanted to make a family. Unfortunately, he married for sex, good cooking, and clean laundry.
My advice for all those young things out there, find man who’s father cheated on his mother when he was a young teen. That really has an impact on them.
Hubby #2 is in it for the long haul. 20 years in January and while we’ve had our disagreements, we are more committed and love each other more as each year go by. Yeah, it sounds too sweet, but it’s true. But it takes a lot of work and a lot of commitment!!
We are talking about two different things. That was my point to begin with. IT’S THE TIMING! D’Souza’s 2016 is all over TV. It hit the DVD racks today. It’s #1 in Movies and TV on Amazon. This has nothing to do with wives and girlfriends. This is the communist regime trying to discredit D’Souza. It appears to be working.
I have great respect for Catholics. Question: how would you feel if your monsignor was caught sharing a hotel room with a woman. Not an exact parallel, but those in leadership have a double responsibility to model chastity in their lives.
Celebrity worship culture strikes back! Many buy the gutter nonsense. Shame on ya!
Sounds like a political hit.
Democrats now have a problem with this?? Or only if its a Republican?
King’s College cares and has every right to care. This has a direct impact on them.
This scandal appears not to have been manufactured by the enemies of conservatism. Rather, D'Souza was the speaker at a convention in SC at the end of September. It was his behavior (sharing his room with a woman who was not his wife) that caught people's attention, since he apparently was so brazen that he didn't attempt to hide his behavior.
D'Souza has no one to blame but himself for the controversy that has arisen - and we must not excuse his behavior because of whatever good his film has accomplished.
It was not the "communist regime" that was attempting to discredit D'Souza: it was an enemy far more deadly - the Evil One and enemy of our souls.
