Conservatives in blogland pounced on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s statment taking responsibility for the security of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, saying it looks like a bid to shield President Barack Obama from the continuing fallout from the deadly attack.
Clinton, who told CNN, “I want to avoid some kind of political gotcha,” is “falling on the sword to save Obama,” wrote Erick Erickson at RedState.com.
Erickson asked, “Doesn’t the buck stop with Barack Obama?”
“That’s what the President said back in July,” Erickson wrote, pointing to a moment when Obama said he’s learned that the “buck stops” with the President of the United States. “In the same interview, he went on to say, ‘one of the things you learn is, you are ultimately responsible for the conduct of your operations.’ But then again, often what this President practices and what he preaches are two different things.”
“This is a laudable gesture, especially when the White House is trying to avoid any responsibility whatsoever,” wrote GOP Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte in a joint statement. But, they added later, “The security of Americans serving our nation everywhere in the world is ultimately the job of the Commander-in-Chief. The buck stops there.”

What you say is true. Plus the spin on this clinton story is almost relativistic. Faster than light bullshit. If Romney plays his cards right this evening, obama’s head will explode, he’ll have so much ‘splainin to do.
I mean what price is she paying? She’s not resigning or enduring anything else that would suggest there are consequences. Just words and move on.
This is nothing short of Hillary performing political jujitsu and coming out clean and dirt free.
You've got that exactly right. Hillary is no dope, especially when politics are involved. Evil, yes - but no dope. She has maneuvered things so that she can run against Romney in 2016, rather than against some (now) unknown person after 8 years of a Rat Presidency. She will have, if Obama loses, have succeeded in placing herself in the position of Romney right now, vs. that of McCain in 2008.
I hate her guts, but she's just ensured that she's the Dem nominee in 2016, and that she'll have the best possible shot at things then. Not bad, Cankles.
